Racing Incident Report

SUPER WIN FORTUNE was withdrawn on 23.5.06 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore foot) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter REGAL THRILLS (Apprentice K T Yeung). Before being allowed to race again, SUPER WIN FORTUNE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. OURAJA was slow to begin. Shortly after the start, REGAL THRILLS lost ground when bumped by GLORY YEARS. At the 800 Metres, NEW MILESTONE was steadied when crowded for room between FLYING GENERAL and GLORY YEARS which initially had its head on the side and shifted in away from HELENE ELEGANCE which momentarily shifted in and then was carried in further by that horse. HELENE ELEGANCE was immediately shifted out to relieve the pressure it was applying to runners on its inside, therefore no action was taken. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, AMO was steadied to avoid the heels of GRAND FIGHTER after being carried out by OURAJA which shifted ground when hanging. Also making the turn at the 600 Metres, ALWAYS WELCOME, HELENE ELEGANCE and GLORY YEARS were carried wider by KEEN FLYER. For the major part of the race, GLORY YEARS hung in. Apprentice C K Tong (KEEN FLYER) explained after crossing to the fence in the lead in the Back Straight, his mount then making the turn at the 600 Metres shifted out as a result of hanging. He said near the 500 Metres he endeavoured to shift back to the rail, however, at this time FLYING GENERAL had improved to his inside and as he was not clear of that runner, he continued to race one horse off the fence. He said making the Home Turn KEEN FLYER again hung out and shifted wider on the track. Apprentice K T Yeung (REGAL THRILLS) explained in the early stages he rode along, however, the horse failed to show speed and got well back. He said approaching the 800 Metres REGAL THRILLS was somewhat unbalanced in its action in tonight's track conditions, he therefore shifted to the fence behind OURAJA. He said he continued to follow OURAJA into the Home Straight and ensured REGAL THRILLS was properly balanced. He said in the Straight he stayed towards the inside as instructed and shortly after straightening he rode the horse along hands and heels. He said prior to the 200 Metres he pulled the whip on REGAL THRILLS, the horse then commenced to close the race off strongly, however, in the run to the line was not able to obtain clear running and therefore was not ridden out to the end of the race. Mr A Lee, trainer of REGAL THRILLS, said it was anticipated the horse would not show sufficient speed to obtain a forward position. He said prior to joining his stable REGAL THRILLS had undergone surgery to remove bone chips from both knees, so he told Apprentice Yeung it was important to have the horse properly balanced. He did say REGAL THRILLS is better suited when racing over distances of further than 1000 Metres of tonight. He added REGAL THRILLS was entered to run at the Sha Tin racemeeting next Sunday over 1600 Metres and he has engaged a senior rider for that race. Mr Lee was told his explanation would be recorded. Apprentice Yeung was told his riding of REGAL THRILLS had come under notice and he should ensure he rides his mounts at all times in a manner which is not open to query. TRUST ME was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, TRUST ME was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was lame in the right front leg and an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, TRUST ME will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. FLYING GENERAL and NEW MILESTONE were sent for sampling.
