Racing Incident Report

FIVE GRAINS was slow to begin. VITAL KING began awkwardly and bumped the outside gate of its stall. VERY FIT began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped SUCCESSIVE GAINS. Near the 1700 Metres, SUCCESSIVE GAINS was steadied when awkwardly placed between FAMOUS DANCER and VERY FIT which shifted out whilst being ridden along to go forward. After this, VERY FIT travelled wide and without cover for the remainder of the race. Passing the 1300 Metres, VERY FIT was hampered and carried wider by DORDENMA which when proving difficult to settle shifted out whilst awkwardly placed close to the heels of CALIFORNIA BISHOP. Passing the 1100 Metres, SUCCESSIVE GAINS was checked when crowded for room inside FAMOUS DANCER which was proving difficult to settle and shifted in abruptly after being carried in by SOPRANO which itself shifted in when awkwardly placed close to the heels of EXCELLENT BOY. Making the turn at the 1000 Metres, VERY FIT was carried wider by DORDENMA which when continuing to prove difficult to settle shifted out away from the heels of CALIFORNIA BISHOP. Near the 800 Metres, DORDENMA was checked away from the heels of CALIFORNIA BISHOP after being carried in by VERY FIT. Making the Home Turn, FAMOUS DANCER was steadied away from the heels of SOUNDS BEST. From shortly after straightening until after the 200 Metres, SOUNDS BEST was held up and unable to improve. Passing the 250 Metres, VITAL KING was shifted to the inside of LIBERAL'S CHOICE to obtain clear running. Approaching and passing the 200 Metres, FAMOUS DANCER was held up and unable to improve. After the 100 Metres, VITAL KING, which was improving on the inside of LIBERAL'S CHOICE, was steadied when crowded for room by that horse which when giving ground was carried in by CALIFORNIA BISHOP. After this, VITAL KING was not ridden to the line. When questioned, D Whyte (DORDENMA) said the horse over-raced badly in the early and middle stages. He said after the 400 Metres he commenced to ride along hands and heels and DORDENMA did not respond to his riding. He said in the early part of the Straight he used the whip down the shoulder of DORDENMA, however, the horse commenced to give ground and continued to give ground in the Straight. He said he believed the horse's poor performance was due to the manner in which it raced in the early and middle stages. Mr C H Yip, trainer of DORDENMA, will be afforded an opportunity of explaining the performance of the horse. DORDENMA was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. VITAL KING was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of DORDENMA and VITAL KING after the race did not show any significant findings. EXCELLENT BOY and FAMOUS DANCER were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported CALIFORNIA BISHOP had sustained an abrasion to the left hind leg.
