Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the Start, the tongue tie fitted to SMARTY was refitted. With the intention of being ridden quietly, SMARTY knuckled shortly after the start and then was taken across behind runners. Also with the intention of being ridden quietly from a wide barrier, RISING WIN was immediately steadied and taken across behind runners. JOY AND TREASURE was slow to begin. After the 1200 Metres, PLEASANT JOURNEY got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of WE'RE BUDDIES. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, JOY AND TREASURE raced tight inside WE'RE BUDDIES which at this time got its head on the side and commenced to hang in. For some distance after this, JOY AND TREASURE continued to race tight inside WE'RE BUDDIES when close to the heels of ATHLETIC GOLD. Making the Home Turn, JOY AND TREASURE was crowded for room inside WE'RE BUDDIES which was carried in by JUST VICTORY which was commencing to give ground and got its head on the side and shifted in. On straightening, MILLENNIUM SUPREME was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of ACCELERATION. In the early part of the Straight, ATHLETIC GOLD had some difficulty obtaining clear running, however, over the concluding stages did not close the race off. At the 250 Metres, SMARTY was steadied away from the heels of PLEASANT JOURNEY. Throughout the race, JUST VICTORY, which had been ridden along to go forward, travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, B Prebble (ACCELERATION) said he had ridden the horse recently in a barrier trial and on that occasion the horse had trialed well when being ridden prominently. He said tonight he was instructed to ride ACCELERATION which was having its first start in Class 5 prominently if possible. He said in accordance with those instructions he went forward from the start, however, was unable to obtain a position close to the rail and therefore raced in a three wide position behind JUST VICTORY. He said throughout the race ACCELERATION did not travel well, was under pressure after the 600 Metres and in the Straight gave ground. Mr C H Yip, trainer of the horse, confirmed the instructions issued to B Prebble and said in the horse's recent starts over 1400 Metres he had instructed Apprentice C W Wong who had ridden the horse to try and follow the pace if possible, but to have the horse travelling comfortably. He said at its last start ACCELERATION was slow to begin and consequently got well back. He said in tonight's race he gave ACCELERATION an outside chance due to the drop in class, however, he was surprised at the degree of betting support for ACCELERATION and said this level of support was not stable inspired. Mr Yip was told the performance of ACCELERATION was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, ACCELERATION will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. ACCELERATION was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of ACCELERATION after the race did not show any significant findings. JUST VICTORY was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, JUST VICTORY was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was lame in the left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, JUST VICTORY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. PLEASANT JOURNEY and JOY AND TREASURE were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 23 March 2006)
ACCELERATION, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. ACCELERATION was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer C H Yip this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to have significant lower back pain. As previously advised, ACCELERATION will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being permitted to race again.
