Racing Incident Report

When being saddled, MAGIC CHARIOT lost its right front plate. This plate was reset. MAGIC CHARIOT was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. On jumping, EASY PUNCH stumbled. Near the 800 Metres, KIMBERLEY MINES became unbalanced when crowded for room inside ENCORE WIN which when proving difficult to settle was awkwardly placed inside the heels of MELLIFLUOUS (O Doleuze) which shifted in when not properly clear. In the circumstances, having in mind the manner in which ENCORE WIN was racing, O Doleuze was severely reprimanded and told to exercise greater care. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, BUCCANEER hung out. MELLIFLUOUS hung out making the Home Turn. Near the 200 Metres, ENCORE WIN, which commenced to give ground, got its head on the side, shifted in away from CALCANDO and made contact with CHATER POWER. CHATER POWER then shifted out and bumped with ENCORE WIN, causing ENCORE WIN to become badly unbalanced. In the circumstances, no action was taken. Over the concluding stages, BUCCANEER raced tight inside MAGIC CHARIOT which was hanging in. Just prior to the winning post, SWIFT GERMANIA shifted in and bumped the running rail. S Dye (STEP TO WIN) explained the intention had been to have the horse ridden in about midfield. He said when racing in a lower class and from a more favourable barrier STEP TO WIN had travelled more prominently. He said from a wider barrier there was some concern if left racing without cover STEP TO WIN would hang out badly as it has done previously. He said he initially intended to follow HIGH POINT, however, when that horse crossed to a two wide position, STEP TO WIN was not clear of BUCCANEER and therefore continued to race in a three wide position. He said making the turn at the 800 Metres STEP TO WIN got its head up, raced ungenerously and hung out. He said STEP TO WIN did make some ground in the Straight, however, in his opinion was not suited on today's track which was running quick times. STEP TO WIN was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of STEP TO WIN after the race did not show any significant findings. HIGH POINT, CALCANDO and CHATER POWER were sent for sampling.
