Racing Incident Report

Whilst in the Parade Ring, BRAVERY LUCK shifted the left front plate. This plate was refitted. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. DANZIGMOUNTAIN and FABULOUS TREASURE were slow to begin. In the early stages, WINNING PATTERN travelled wide and without cover and after the 1400 Metres hung out. After entering the Back Straight, WISHING WELL was left racing wide and without cover. H K Yim (SHANGHAI DELIGHT) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 900 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of LUCKY CORDELIA, causing that horse to lose its rightful running and be checked. H K Yim was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday 25 June 2007 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension is with immediate effect. Making the turn at the 700 Metres, BRAVERY LUCK was steadied away from the heels of STEP FORWARD. On straightening, BRAVERY LUCK was steadied away from the heels of WINNING PATTERN and shifted to the inside of STEP FORWARD to obtain clear running. At the 300 Metres, DANZIGMOUNTAIN, which was commencing to close the race off strongly, was steadied and shifted to the inside of LUCKY CORDELIA and WINNING PATTERN to continue going forward. At the 50 Metres, COULDN'T CARE LESS was steadied and shifted in to avoid the heels of SHANGHAI DELIGHT which shifted ground. In the Straight, STEP FORWARD hung out. The performance of FABULOUS TREASURE, which tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, FABULOUS TREASURE will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Apprentice K L Chui (JOYFUL UNION) explained the horse has been disappointing recently when being ridden in a rearward position. He said because of this he was today instructed to endeavour to have the horse in the first three. He did say today JOYFUL UNION had begun better than it had at its last start. Mr D E Ferraris, trainer of JOYFUL UNION, confirmed the instructions issued to Apprentice Chui and said those were consistent with the riding instructions for the horse in all its runs. He said JOYFUL UNION either because of wide barriers, the composition of the field or being slow to begin has not been able to obtain the intended forward position in recent runs. When questioned regarding the poor performance of COULDN'T CARE LESS, S Dye said at no stage of the race did the horse travel comfortably. He said because of the track conditions he endeavoured initially to be a little more forward than is usual, however, COULDN'T CARE LESS was not travelling well enough to hold its position. He said because of this he allowed COULDN'T CARE LESS to drop back in the hope that the horse would travel more comfortably. He said in the Straight COULDN'T CARE LESS kept on only one-paced. G Mossé (WINNING PATTERN) explained his mount's poor performance was due to the effort required to obtain a prominent position in a quickly run race. He said WINNING PATTERN came under pressure shortly after the 600 Metres and commenced to give ground shortly afterwards. WINNING PATTERN and COULDN'T CARE LESS were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of WINNING PATTERN and COULDN'T CARE LESS after the race did not show any significant findings. THREE CLUBS and BRAVERY LUCK were sent for sampling.
