Racing Incident Report

The declaration of weighed-in was deferred whilst the Stewards considered whether HELENE PILLAGING had had an unfair start. In addition, Apprentice H W Lai, the rider of HELENE PILLAGING, requested the Stewards to consider whether that horse had had an unfair start. The evidence disclosed that as the start was effected, HELENE PILLAGING put its head down, causing Apprentice Lai to be almost dislodged. Because of this, Apprentice Lai reached out with his right arm and took hold of the adjoining partition between barriers. When HELENE PILLAGING left the barriers, Apprentice Lai was badly unbalanced, still had hold of the adjoining partition and as a consequence of this HELENE PILLAGING left the barriers riderless. As the Stewards believed HELENE PILLAGING had created its own set of circumstances and the incident took place as the start was effected, they considered the horse had not had an unfair start and therefore it was deemed to be a runner and weighed-in was declared on the numbers as semaphored by the Judge. Before being allowed to race again, HELENE PILLAGING will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. ORIENTAL MAGIC lifted its front feet off the ground at the start and as a consequence was slow to begin. At the 1200 Metres, KING ENCOSTA was steadied away from the heels of HELENE BRILLIANT. At the 800 Metres, REGENCY HORSE lost ground when crowded for room between EGYPTIAN RA and TIBER, both of which shifted ground. After straightening, SURVEY SURVEY was steadied and shifted to the outside of HAPPEE OWNER to obtain clear running. At the 100 Metres, MY CHOICE was steadied when disappointed for running between SUPREME CLASS and HELENE BRILLIANT. After the 50 Metres, MY CHOICE was steadied away from the heels of SUPREME CLASS. For the major part of the race, NILOMETER travelled wide and without cover. The performances of NILOMETER and SILVER SUN, which tailed out, were considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, NILOMETER and SILVER SUN will both have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. B Prebble (HELENE BRILLIANT), which was having its second Hong Kong race start today, said the horse did not let down and lengthen stride in the Straight as it had at its first start. He said HELENE BRILLIANT is still a young horse and is somewhat inexperienced. HELENE BRILLIANT, EGYPTIAN RA and SURVEY SURVEY were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported ORIENTAL MAGIC had bled from both nostrils.
