Racing Incident Report

SPICY SHRIMP reared as the start was effected and consequently lost ground. FAST GO was slow to begin. From outside barriers, K-JACK and THINK BIG were taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Approaching the 1100 Metres, CARE FREE MIDAS raced tight inside KING OF HEARTS which got its head on the side and shifted in. Then near the 1000 Metres, CARE FREE MIDAS was bumped by KING OF HEARTS which initially shifted in away from JOYFUL JOYFUL. A short distance later, CARE FREE MIDAS shifted out and was steadied away from the heels of KING OF HEARTS which at this time was taken in slightly by JOYFUL JOYFUL. Passing the 1000 Metres, JOYFUL JOYFUL got its head up and proved very difficult to settle when being steadied to allow MEGABUCKS to cross. For some distance approaching the 800 Metres, FAST GO was steadied away from the heels of KING OF HEARTS. Throughout the race, SOU MA TAM travelled wide and without cover. When questioned regarding his riding of K-JACK in the Straight, Apprentice K C Leung stated that his mount quickened well in the early part of the Straight. He said as he felt that K-JACK was giving of its best, he rode the horse out vigorously hands and heels and used the whip down the shoulder of the horse. He said near the 100 Metres he felt that K-JACK’s run was finishing, therefore he used the whip behind the saddle at which point the horse commenced to shift ground inwards towards SPICY SHRIMP. He said he again used the whip behind the saddle close to the line, however, he was reluctant to fully ride K-JACK out over the concluding stages as it continued to shift ground inwards towards SPICY SHRIMP. Apprentice Leung was advised that his riding out of K-JACK in the Straight had come under notice and he should ensure that he fully tests his mounts so as to leave no room for query. A veterinary inspection of CARE FREE MIDAS after the race did not show any significant findings. CARE FREE MIDAS, JOYFUL JOYFUL and KING OF HEARTS were sent for sampling.
