Racing Incident Report

From a wide barrier, CARTOON FAY FAY was taken across behind runners shortly after the start and then was left racing wide and without cover after the 800 Metres.
Rounding the Home Turn, HEI HEI POSH was momentarily crowded for room between CARTOON FAY FAY and ACTIVISM which shifted out to obtain clear running.
Approaching the 200 Metres, FUNNY FORTUNE was steadied away from the heels of MOBILE KING (C K Tong) which shifted in under pressure. As the Stewards were satisfied that FUNNY FORTUNE had not properly established running to the inside of MOBILE KING, no further action was taken other than C K Tong was reprimanded and advised to ensure that he stops riding and straightens his mounts in similar circumstances.
Throughout the race, HEI HEI POSH travelled wide and without cover.
The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in whilst they considered if HEY CHEERS had been afforded a fair start. Evidence was taken from Jockey Z Purton, Mr W Y So, the trainer of HEY CHEERS, Deputy Starter, Mr A Speechley, who started this race and Starter, Mr T McGovern. After taking evidence from all parties concerned and after viewing the official videos, it was established that immediately prior to the start being effected, HEY CHEERS became fractious, then as the start was effected, HEY CHEERS, which was being assisted by a starting gate handler, put its head down before then throwing its head up and back towards Z Purton. Z Purton then became badly unbalanced in the saddle and after the gates had opened reached out with his right hand onto the barrier partition to balance himself. HEY CHEERS then left the barrier stalls riderless. As the Stewards were of the opinion that at the time the start was effected Z Purton was properly mounted and that HEY CHEERS had caused its own problems by becoming fractious and further that the starting gate handler was attempting to assist HEY CHEERS and had not played any part in the horse missing the start, they found that HEY CHEERS had been afforded a fair start and accordingly was deemed to be a runner. Before being allowed to race again, HEY CHEERS will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial.
A veterinary inspection of DANESOUTH and BAMBOO DANCE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
ACTIVISM and CARTOON FAY FAY were sent for sampling.
