Racing Incident Report

BEETLE missed the start, then took some time to settle and threw its head about. FIVE STARS SHINING jumped awkwardly, as a consequence of this B Doyle was momentarily unbalanced. STORM BOY jumped awkwardly with its head up. On straightening, STORM BOY was awkward on the heels of ENORMOUS WAY, then had difficulty for some time obtaining clear running and about 100 Metres out was steadied when momentarily held up for a run between HAPPY HERO and SWEET VICTORY. Because of these incidents in the Straight, STORM BOY was not fully tested out at any stage and was only tested after the 100 Metres. About the 1400 Metres, HAPPY HERO, which had a tendency to be pulling, became unbalanced when awkward on the heels of CLEANPAIROFHEELS. Shortly after this incident, HAPPY HERO raced to the outside of CLEANPAIROFHEELS. From about 1000 Metres onwards, HAPPY HERO hung in. Just before straightening, BEETLE was momentarily awkward on the heels of FIVE STARS SHINING. About 100 Metres out, W Woods (CROWN REGENT) had the whip knocked from his hand by the whip of J Egan (CIGAR KING). After this, J Egan changed the whip into his right hand. R Fradd (SWEET VICTORY) said today from an outside gate he was instructed by the Trainer to steady the horse on jumping, shift across into a rearward position and endeavour to race with cover. He said he was able to find cover in the early stages, but after the 800 Metres was obliged to race wide without any cover and when he put the horse under pressure in the Straight as he had been directed to by the Trainer, it did not respond as he thought it would.
