Racing Incident Report

After some runners for the race had been loaded, the bell, which is set off by the Starter when he releases the gates, sounded. The bell can also be activated in the Judge's Box and the Betting Operations Control Centre. It was established that this had not been activated by the Judge or his staff nor had it been activated by the Betting Operations Control Centre. The bell cannot be activated by the Starter until he releases the runners. In addition, the sectional timing is activated by the bell which sounds in normal circumstances when the field is released. As this bell had sounded prematurely, it was not possible to re-set the sectional timing system before the race actually began. It was established that whilst the horses were parading behind the barriers before the race, one of the runners walked on the lead which goes to the control system. This activated the bell and the sectional timing system. Steps will be taken to re-configure the wiring and therefore ensure such an occurrence cannot happen again. It should be pointed out that this incident could not have led to the gates opening prematurely. LUCKY NUMBER jumped awkwardly, shifted in and bumped FAIRWAY FINDER. ACE ACADEMY left the gates badly with its head up, shifted ground and made contact with DANRIVA. Near the 600 Metres, MUNDAHISH struck the running rail. LOTUS SUPREME made the first turn somewhat awkwardly with its head up. From a difficult gate, IDEAL PARTNER was obliged to travel wide throughout and without cover. The horse was further inconvenienced about the 700 Metres when FAIRWAY FINDER shifted out, causing DANRIVA to shift ground, in turn obliging IDEAL PARTNER to cover additional ground. K S Yu (SPLENDID PATROL) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 132(i)] in that at about the 200 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in whilst riding it along when not clear of MUNDAHISH. As a consequence of this, MUNDAHISH lost the running to which it was rightfully entitled and was severely checked. LUCKY CHARM, which was following, was hampered in consequence and shifted out. K S Yu was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday, 13 November 2000 on which day he may resume race riding. The commencement of the suspension on this occasion is to take immediate effect. FAIRWAY FINDER sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing. After the race, it was noted that LUCKY NUMBER had lost its near side front plate.
