Racing Incident Report

GOLD FLASK jumped awkwardly with its head up, shifted out and caused inconvenience to LIGHT PRINT. In the early stages, INCA ROSE raced ungenerously, hung out, then throughout the race travelled wide and without any cover. About the 100 Metres, CORE PRINCIPLES was steadied when awkward between the hindquarters of STERLING CHANCE and COUP POUR ROI. When questioned, Apprentice S K Sit (FOR SZESZE) said he had never been on the horse before and today he was instructed by the Assistant Trainer from a good gate to ride the horse in a forward position, in the Straight to resist if possible from using the whip and ride it out hard hands and heels. Apprentice S K Sit said FOR SZESZE left the gates satisfactorily, he pushed along to try and take up a forward position as instructed, but in the early stages was crowded for room between SAINT TAK and LEGEND OF WEI HAI, was checked and got further back than planned, then after the 1000 Metres he pushed the horse along and hit it with the whip in an endeavour to put the horse back into the race, but was unable to do so. He said in the Straight he endeavoured to find running through the field, was able to in the early part of the Straight, but over about the last 200 Metres did not have running when close to the heels of MULTI-WINNER and as a consequence did not ride the horse out to the finish as he normally would. Mr D Shum, Assistant Trainer to Mr I W Allan, Trainer of FOR SZESEZ, confirmed that the instructions to Apprentice Sit had been to have the horse in a forward position. He also said in the past the horse has run well when ridden by Apprentices who are not so vigorous and today it was decided to refrain from using the whip on the horse unless absolutely necessary. He said after the race he did question Apprentice Sit as to the reason for him getting so far back and was told the horse was crowded in the early stages. The evidence submitted by Mr Shum was accepted. Today it was decided that the evidence submitted by Apprentice Sit would be recorded. FOR SZESZE was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
