Racing Incident Report

On jumping HARMONY PRINCE, INVENTOR and AMERICAN CHAMPION were crowded for room between JEWEL BOX which shifted in slightly and SILVER POWER which on jumping shifted out abruptly. The occurrence was accidental. SEATTLE SUN was slowly away. Turning out of the Straight the first time INVENTOR and DECOUVERT came together. The Stewards dismissed two objections lodged by D Whyte, the rider of HARMONY PRINCE, which finished 3rd. D Whyte had objected against GUSCOTT being declared the winner and AMERICAN CHAMPION being declared 2nd. He had alleged interference to his mount near the 200 Metres. The Stewards considered whilst near the 200 Metres GUSCOTT momentarily shifted out and AMERICAN CHAMPION shifted in, this collectively caused inconvenience to HARMONY PRINCE, they did not consider bearing in mind the distance of about 1 ½ lengths between HARMONY PRINCE and GUSCOTT and the 1 ¼ lengths between HARMONY PRINCE and AMERICAN CHAMPION that the material extent of the interference which occurred near the 200 Metres justified an alteration to the Judge's placings. Accordingly, the objections were overruled and the placings as semaphored by the judge were confirmed. After the race it was reported that HEAVY WEAPON had lost its off side front plate. M De Montfort (DECOUVERT) explained that since its last run the horse has been doing well. He rode it in recent work which was quite satisfactory. He said tonight DECOUVERT travelled nicely until about the 700 Metres when the horse became momentarily unbalanced behind. Shortly after this DECOUVERT appeared reluctant to stretch out, got its head up and in the Straight he was of the view that there was something wrong with the action of the horse. A veterinary examination of DECOUVERT failed to reveal any abnormalities. The performance of DECOUVERT was considered unacceptable and before the horse can race again it must perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and it will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SILVER POWER and DECOUVERT were sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
