Racing Incident Report
EXPEDIENT and MENDOZA both jumped awkwardly. Just after the start, HANDBAG DRAGON dipped, then made contact with TOY WARRIOR. About the 300 Metres, HANDBAG DRAGON was checked when crowded between OUR CLASS which shifted out slightly and ASIA RISING (J Murtagh) which was making ground from a rearward position and shifted in slightly to the inside of MENDOZA. J Murtagh was told he must exercise far more care than this when shifting ground. Just after this incident, ASIA RISING and OUR CLASS came together. Approaching the 200 Metres, OUR CLASS shifted out to find running. Just before the 200 Metres, CHARM SCENE LAND was checked and V-CAN crowded between EXULTATION which shifted in slightly and MENDOZA which shifted out away from ASIA RISING which itself was being taken out by OUR CLASS. Just after the 200 Metres, MY CHIEF, which was making some ground from a rearward position, was changed course to avoid WIND PURSUER. J Murtagh said before the event the Trainer told him the horse can be keen in its races and from an outside gate today if he was caught wide without any cover, he would find it difficult to settle the horse. He was therefore instructed to try and ensure the horse left the gates in a relaxed fashion, then steady across behind other runners into a position at the rear but close to the rail. He said ASIA RISING left the gates satisfactorily and then to carry out the instruction he had been given, he had to take greater hold of the horse than he would have wished mainly because of the manner in which some other runners were being ridden in the early stages. ASIA RISING was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing. After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon reported that MENDOZA was bleeding from the mouth due to a broken tooth on the near side. Also following the race, the Veterinary Surgeon noted that V-CAN had blood in its mouth due to minor bleeding from a tooth on the near side.
