Racing Incident Report
After arriving at the barriers, D Harrison (SUGAR AND SPICE) sought a veterinary examination of the horse as he was concerned with the way it had worked down. SUGAR AND SPICE was trotted up, examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who could find no abnormalities. He discussed the situation with D Harrison and it was then decided SUGAR AND SPICE was suitable to race. On leaving the gates, PRIDE AND FORTUNE shifted out abruptly and bumped GANBARIA STAR. CHEROKEE EXPRESS was green throughout, on the first turn got its head up, shifted out abruptly across the heels of WINNING PLEASURE. Before being permitted to race again, CHEROKEE EXPRESS will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. Near the 600 Metres, MAXIMUM JOY was awkward on the heels of PRIDE AND FORTUNE. Approaching and rounding the Home Turn, PRIDE AND FORTUNE hung out. About the 200 Metres, as LUCKY LAD shifted out slightly, WINNING PLEASURE shifted in and was momentarily unbalanced on the heels of LUCKY LAD. Throughout the event, WINNING PLEASURE raced greenly. Throughout the race, GANBARIA STAR hung in badly. J Egan (LUCKY LAD) said he had been instructed by the Trainer to try and find a position somewhere to the outside of GOLCONDA if possible, but today he was told not to lead. He said near the 800 Metres there was a position on the rail in front of TEKON PERFECT, but before he could shift and take up this position, SIROCCO steadied and shifted in across the heels of GOLCONDA into this position. J Egan said after this he followed SIROCCO, about the 600 Metres endeavoured to find running between SIROCCO and STAR WARRIOR, then was unable to do so and had to steady and wait until straightening where he shifted out to find running and go forward. He said after the race it was stated to him by the Trainer that in hindsight it would have been preferable for his instructions to have been to lead. LUCKY LAD was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
