Racing Incident Report

When leaving the Parade Ring, WINNING ASSOCIATES kicked out and made contact with a rail. On arriving at the Start, the horse was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who discussed the situation with the rider and it was then decided WINNING ASSOCIATES was suitable to race. After being boxed, STAR WARRIOR became fractious and broke through whilst riderless. The horse was quickly caught by an attendant, returned to the gates and was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who decided the horse was suitable to race. Before being allowed to race again, STAR WARRIOR will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial (stalls test). OPEN TREASURE was very difficult to load. Before being permitted to race again, OPEN TREASURE will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial (stalls test). WAH YAN FORTUNE jumped very awkwardly. Near the 800 Metres, TEKON PERFECT, which had a tendency to be laying out, was crowded for room between MIR and MY JOY which shifted in when barely clear. In the middle stages, OPEN TREASURE hung out. Approaching and rounding the Home Turn, TEKON PERFECT hung out. When struck with the whip in the early part of the Straight, MIR became unbalanced and shifted in. As a consequence of this, Apprentice S K Sit stopped riding and changed his whip hand. When questioned, W C Marwing (MAGIC OF MONEY) said he had been instructed by the Trainer to ensure the horse jumped well and then to lead, if this was not possible, he was to take up a position close to the front. He said MAGIC OF MONEY jumped well, he rode the horse along in an endeavour to carry out the instructions, but MAGIC OF MONEY did not show the pace to lead and also commenced to hang in and got further back than was the intention. He said running to the first turn there was an opportunity for him to improve on the inside of CLASSIC MASTER and when he endeavoured to do so, MAGIC OF MONEY was reluctant to take up that position, he steadied and travelled behind CLASSIC MASTER. He said in the Straight MAGIC OF MONEY raced very greenly, but did finish the race off nicely. The explanations submitted by W C Marwing were accepted. When questioned, F Coetzee (ASHKANESSA) said the horse has been previously ridden to show its natural speed and during track work has been proving very difficult to settle. He said today he was drawn outside CLASSIC MASTER and the instructions were if possible to try and find cover with ASHKANESSA, he therefore elected in the early stages to steady, take up a position behind CLASSIC MASTER and in that spot ASHKANESSA travelled satisfactorily, but in the middle stages when racing with cover ASHKANESSA over-relaxed and got further back than he would have wished. He did go on to say when in the clear in the Straight ASHKANESSA did find the line strongly and he was pleased with the manner in which the horse settled and then finished off. The explanations submitted by F Coetzee were accepted.
