Racing Incident Report

WELLDONE KID left the gates awkwardly with its head up. On jumping, BEAUTY FOUNTAIN shifted out abruptly and bumped the hindquarters of EXPRESS LOT. In the early stages, BEAUTY FOUNTAIN proved very difficult to settle and several times became unbalanced when close to the heels of CLEAR MASTER. Near the 800 Metres, REPUTATION was checked when crowded between STORM BOY which shifted out slightly from behind HOLY WINE and SPLENDID BO BO which momentarily shifted in. The occurrence in the opinion of the Stewards was accidental. When REPUTATION checked, inconvenience was caused to WELLDONE KID which was following. About the 600 Metres, ASPIRATION became unbalanced when crowded for room between STORM BOY and CLEAR MASTER which momentarily shifted out. FLIGHT OF FANCY made the Home Turn awkwardly with its head up and hung out. The Stewards overruled an objection lodged by E Saint-Martin, the rider of EXPRESS LOT, which finished 4th, against FLIGHT OF FANCY (W Woods), 3rd placegetter. E Saint-Martin had alleged interference to his mount at about the 200 Metres. The Stewards were of the opinion whilst FLIGHT OF FANCY did shift in near the 200 Metres and did cause interference to EXPRESS LOT, they did not consider, bearing in mind the 1¼ lengths margin between the two runners at the finish, that the material extent of the interference justified an alteration to the Judge's placings. Accordingly the placings as semaphored were confirmed. W Woods was found guilty of a charge of careless riding. The careless riding being that at about the 200 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in whilst riding it along when not clear of EXPRESS LOT, this resulted in EXPRESS LOT being carried across the running of METRO TRAVELLER, causing that horse to be checked. W Woods was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Sunday, 27 May 2001 on which day he may resume race riding (4 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the meeting at Happy Valley next Wednesday. In the run to the winning post, HOLY WINE had a tendency to hang in. During the running, the saddle on OBRIGADO shifted back, this placed E Legrix at a somewhat disadvantage. WELLDONE KID was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
