Racing Incident Report
When the gates opened, AUTHORISED bounded in the air, bumped the inside of its stall and consequently lost a lot of ground. In the early stages, WINNING PLEASURE hung out and on several occasions shifted ground, as a result WINNING PLEASURE made contact with GOOD TIME FOR ALL and obliged that horse to race wider. About the 300 Metres, LUCKY KING shifted out and caused some inconvenience to WIN OKAY. TOP QUALITY, which was following, was also inconvenienced, was shifted out to find running and this caused AUTHORISED, which was beginning to make ground, to be steadied and shift out. When AUTHORISED shifted some ground about the 300 Metres, WINNING PLEASURE was hampered. The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in. They were of the prima facie view that an incident had occurred about the 200 Metres which cast sufficient doubt on whether INTERVENE should be declared the winner of the race. They decided there was justification to have the matter resolved formally and openly at a protest/objection hearing (Rule 123). J Egan, the rider of LEGEND OF WEI HAI, second placegetter, also lodged a protest/objection against INTERVENE (S Dye) being declared the winner alleging interference to his mount about the 200 Metres. Following the conduct of a formal hearing, the Stewards on all the available evidence were of the opinion that whilst INTERVENE shifted in momentarily near the 200 Metres and inconvenienced LEGEND OF WEI HAI, they did not consider bearing in mind the 1½ length margin between the two horses at the finish that LEGEND OF WEI HAI would have finished in front of INTERVENE had the crowding which did take place not occurred. Accordingly the Judge's placings as semaphored were confirmed. Subsequently S Dye was severely reprimanded for shifting in near the 200 Metes and causing LEGEND OF WEI HAI to be crowded for room and steadied. He was told in similar circumstances he must stop riding and straighten sooner than he did tonight. JUST WIN was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
