Racing Incident Report
The start was delayed as the tongue tie on HYDROGEN POWER had to be refitted before the horse was loaded. HYDROGEN POWER was slowly away, then in the Straight had a tendency to hang out. In the early sages, AHEAD A HEAD proved very difficult to settle, then made the Home Turn awkwardly with its head up and shifted out. The Stewards allowed Mr T W Leung, trainer of MY DELIGHT, an opportunity of explaining its improved performance when compared with its runs over recent times. Mr Leung said the horse had been improving leading into a recent trial at Happy Valley and had in his opinion gone well in that trial. He said the horse also in races of recent times had been proving difficult to settle and racing with its mouth open and today he had the horse fitted with a crossover nose band which kept MY DELIGHT's mouth closed and did seem to be of considerable assistance. The explanations submitted by Mr Leung were recorded, however, he was told if the Stewards decide they should re-visit the matter any time in future, they reserve the right to do so. A Marcus (SIR TIMAH) said at no stage of the race did the horse travel as he thought it should. Subsequent to the event, the Veterinary Surgeon reported that following an endoscopic examination he observed SIR TIMAH had a significant amount of blood in its windpipe. Before being allowed to race again, SIR TIMAH will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and must pass an official veterinary examination. FAMOUS BRAND and SIR TIMAH were sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing.
