Racing Incident Report

KENZAN left the gates awkwardly with its head on the side, shifted in and bumped CHARIOT OF STORM. EXULTATION left the gates very awkwardly with its head up and as a consequence of this lost a lot of ground. From a difficult gate, EVER SUCCESS was obliged to race wide throughout, could not find any cover and in the middle stages whilst wide hung out. In the Straight, SNIPPETYIYEA hung in rather badly and proved difficult to ride out. D Whyte (GREEN DIAMOND) said before the race it was discussed and decided if possible he was not to use the whip on the horse. He said GREEN DIAMOND enjoyed a nice run in the race. He said his mount travelled beside CHARIOT OF STORM and in his opinion in the run had that horse covered. He said when he went up to challenge CHARIOT OF STORM approaching the 200 Metres, he thought GREEN DIAMOND would run by it. He said the horse did not respond as he expected and after the 200 Metres he felt he had no alternative but to give the horse at least a few hits in the backhanded fashion. He said GREEN DIAMOND did not respond at all to the whip riding and he thought it was in the best interests of the horse to again put the whip away and go to the post hands and heels. The explanations submitted were accepted. GREEN DIAMOND was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing. The Veterinary Surgeon said after the race he noted blood stains in both nostrils of GREEN DIAMOND. An endoscopic examination was carried out. The Veterinary Surgeon said this revealed only traces of blood in the pharynx and the horse was clean in the trachea. Accordingly GREEN DIAMOND would not be declared a bleeder.
