Racing Incident Report

GOLDEN AIR was withdrawn on 24.9.02 on veterinary grounds (lame both front legs) and replaced by Standby Declared Starter EXPEDIENT. Before GOLDEN AIR can race again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. On jumping, KENZAN threw its head about. RUN AND WIN left the gates awkwardly, shifted in slightly and brushed the hindquarters of EXPEDIENT. Just after the start, SNIPPETYIYEA shifted out away from RUN AND WIN. This resulted in ONE STEP AHEAD losing its running between SNIPPETYIYEA and BOBO DUCK. After this, ONE STEP AHEAD was steadied and shifted in to take up a position closer to the rail but towards the rear. From a difficult gate, THE DUKE was obliged to race wide throughout and was not able to find any cover, then in the Straight was inclined to get its head on the side and lay in. Near the 1000 Metres, TRUST ME and EVER MORE were severely checked, GREEN DIAMOND and SENSIBLE WAY unnecessarily crowded for room when EXPEDIENT (E Legrix) which was being ridden along to go forward got its head on the side and lay in. The Stewards accepted E Legrix had made the effort expected of him to avoid causing such crowding and therefore despite the severity of the incident, it was decided no direct action should be taken, however, E Legrix was asked to exercise care at all times. Approaching and rounding the Home Turn, RUN AND WIN was inclined to hang in. EVER MORE was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. The post race clinical examination of EVER MORE revealed no abnormalities. GREEN DIAMOND and ONE STEP AHEAD were sent for sampling.
