Racing Incident Report

GOLDEN SPIRIT was withdrawn on 25.10.02 on veterinary grounds (temperature) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter BLAZING BOB (G Schofield). Just as the gates opened, BLAZING BOB reared, because of this G Schofield was unbalanced. When BLAZING BOB came from the gates, G Schofield was dislodged. The Stewards delayed the declaration of weighed-in as they were of the prima facie view that BLAZING BOB may have had an unfair start [Rule 12(19)]. However, after viewing all the available films, the Stewards decided that this was not an appropriate occasion on which they should exercise their powers under Rule 12(19). Before weighed-in was semaphored, because of the riderless horse continuing with the runners, the Stewards considered whether the race should be declared void [Rule 12(39)]. Again after all the available films were viewed and the matter was considered, the Stewards formed the view that when BLAZING BOB shifted across to the front of the field at about the 600 Metres, slight inconvenience was caused to GOODWOOD, then in the Straight when ABLE MARSHALL was improving, some inconvenience was caused to that runner. It was decided that the result should stand and accordingly weighed-in was notified. Before BLAZING BOB can race again, it will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. Subsequent to the race, G Schofield was examined by the Club's doctor who said he was fit to continue with his further engagements. After the 200 Metres, SUPER COMBED became unbalanced and shifted out, because of this F Coetzee stopped riding. GOLDEN MAPLE was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, GOLDEN MAPLE was examined. No abnormalities detected. ABLE MARSHALL and GOODWOOD were sent for sampling.
