Racing Incident Report
SCHOOL DAYS, second Standby Declared Starter, was withdrawn on 28.2.03 on veterinary grounds (lame left fore). Before being allowed to race again, SCHOOL DAYS will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. HIGH SPIRITS bounded in the air at the start. Shortly after the start, GOOD FIT was steadied when crowded for room between MONEY WINS and THE PIONEER which shifted out. Shortly after this, MONEY WINS and XLERATE were steadied when crowded for room between THE PIONEER and OPTIC FRIENDLY which was racing tight inside SPRINTER. At the 1700 Metres, MONEY WINS was again steadied when momentarily crowded for room inside OPTIC FRIENDLY. In the early part of the Home Straight, GOOD FIT was held up and unable to obtain clear running behind PRODIGY, at the 300 Metres was shifted out initially to improve on the outside of PRODIGY and inside SPRINTER. When SPRINTER commenced to shift in, GOOD FIT was again steadied and shifted to the outside of that horse to obtain clear running. Near the 300 Metres, SONGS OF PRAISE was checked and shifted out when disappointed for a narrow run on the inside of THE PIONEER which after straightening had shifted out slightly and at this stage shifted back to the rail. In the circumstances, no action was taken. After the 200 Metres, BLACK KNIGHT was steadied when momentarily crowded for room between GOOD FIT and XLERATE which when under pressure got its head on the side and hung in. In the concluding stages, HAPPY FORTUNE was awkwardly placed inside the heels of SPECIFIC SORCEROR which was shifting in. Because of this, HAPPY FORTUNE was not ridden out to the end of the race. XLERATE and GOOD FIT were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted SPECIFIC SORCEROR had lost its left hind plate.
