Racing Incident Report

On jumping, LUCKY TWINS and OPERATION HUMOUR bumped. On jumping, OPERA MAGIC blundered. Also on jumping, Y T Cheng (GLORIOUS LIGHT) lost the use of his right stirrup. He regained this shortly after the start. ETERNAL FUN began awkwardly and bumped the outside of its gate, causing Apprentice P H Lo, its rider, to lose the use of his left stirrup. Apprentice P H Lo regained this shortly after the start. MAGICAL WARRIOR was a little slow to begin, then shortly after the start was steadied when crowded for room between OPERA MAGIC and AMAZING VICTORY, both of which shifted ground. In the early stages, OPERATION HUMOUR proved difficult to settle and then after the 1200 Metres got its head up and became unbalanced after being bumped on two occasions by FLORAL DYNAMITE. After the 1000 Metres, V-CAN, which was proving difficult to settle, got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of AMAZING VICTORY. Near the 800 metres, OPERA MAGIC shifted in to race beside AMAZING VICTORY. This left SMILING FOREST without cover. When without cover, SMILING FOREST commenced to over-race and pulled its way forward to be racing outside the leader. Near the 200 Metres, ETERNAL FUN became unbalanced and shifted out, was then steadied and shifted back in to avoid the heels of LUCKY TWINS which was giving ground. Y T Cheng (GLORIOUS LIGHT) said after losing the use of his right stirrup on jumping, he was able to quickly regain it. He said shortly after the start, he looked down to check on his saddle as he was of the opinion it may have shifted back, after this GLORIOUS LIGHT travelled comfortably behind midfield despite wanting to lay in. He said on straightening he initially considered shifting to the outside in the hope of finding clear running, however, there did not appear to be any opportunity for him to do so, he therefore elected to remain racing where he was and near the 300 Metres checked his mount and shifted it out to avoid the heels of LUCKY TWINS which was giving ground. He said after this he again endeavoured to shift out to find a clear run, however, was not able to do so as he was not clear of HOROSCOPE and to continue out would have caused inconvenience to that horse. He therefore straightened GLORIOUS LIGHT up, shifted in and commenced to ride along hands and heels, however, when making ground after the 200 Metres he again had to steady and shift in to avoid the heels of SMILING FOREST which was giving ground in front of him. He said for the remainder of the race GLORIOUS LIGHT obtained clear running and he rode his mount out hands and heels to the line and GLORIOUS LIGHT closed off strongly. Mr B K Ng, trainer of GLORIOUS LIGHT, confirmed the instructions issued to Y T Cheng and said immediately after the race he questioned Y T Cheng as to his riding in the Straight, however, after having heard his explanations and viewing the video films of the race, he was satisfied with his explanations. The Stewards advised Y T Cheng whilst they would not proceed with this matter, in slightly different circumstances, he could find himself in breach of a serious Rule. He was told his riding in the Straight had caused concern and he was to ensure that at all times he took full use of opportunities which presented themselves. AMAZING VICTORY, FLORAL DYNAMITE and ALWAYS WIN were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported AMAZING VICTORY was making an abnormal breathing noise. An endoscopic examination was carried out. This showed the horse to be a "roarer".
