Racing Incident Report

METRO FLYER was slow to begin. CHAMPION LION began awkwardly and got its head up. WISDOM EXPRESS made the turn near the 1000 Metres awkwardly. Just prior to straightening, ESCALATION brushed the running rail when tight inside LASER GLORY. After the 100 Metres, THE MOST DAUNTLESS, which was giving ground, was steadied when crowded by ABLE EAGLE which after initially being taken in by WISDOM EXPRESS then shifted in on its own accord. Also after the 100 Metres, CHAMPION LION was steadied when crowded for room between SALUT BEAUTE and SUPER BEST which shifted out. Near the winning post, LASER GLORY raced tight between ESCALATION and WISDOM EXPRESS which shifted in. Because of this, LASER GLORY was not ridden to the post as it normally would be. W C Marwing (METRO FLYER) explained after the 200 Metres he was shifting out in an endeavour to obtain clear running, however, near the 100 Metres THE MOST DAUNTLESS was crowded to his outside and as a result he shifted to the inside of HIN YUEN'S UNICORN, then over the concluding stages HIN YUEN'S UNICORN commenced to drift in and whilst he did not lose his rightful running, he was not able to ride his mount out as he normally would. S Dye (AFICIONADO) said tonight from the outside barrier he had been instructed to lead if possible. He said AFICIONADO began well, he immediately rode his mount along, however, he shortly became aware it was not going to show enough pace to clear runners to his inside and if he continued forward, he would not have been able to maintain a position any closer than 5 horses off the rail. Because of this, approaching the 1000 Metres, he elected to steady his mount and shift in behind runners, and obtained a position in the run behind SALUT BEAUTE where AFICIONADO travelled on the bridle as it always does. He said after the 600 Metres he looked on two occasions to his inside to see if he was able to shift further in to follow WISDOM EXPRESS rather than to continue to race three wide, however, he was not able to do so because he was not clear of CHAMPION LION. He said on straightening he eased to the outside of SALUT BEAUTE and AFICIONADO closed the race off quite nicely. The explanations submitted by S Dye were accepted. ESCALATION and WISDOM EXPRESS were sent for sampling.
