Racing Incident Report

OH GREAT and CHIU CHOW HERO were slow to begin. On jumping, POWERFUL knuckled. MILLENNIUM SUPREME began awkwardly and bumped the outside gate of its stall. After passing the winning post on the first occasion, CHIU CHOW HERO got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of BROSE'S HONOR. After this, CHIU CHOW HERO proved difficult to settle and near the 1000 Metres bumped the running rail. After the 800 Metres, POWERFUL was carried wider when GUSCOTT shifted out to race behind WATCH KING. After the 200 Metres, WINNING WAYS was shifted to the inside of BROSE'S HONOR to continue going forward, then over the concluding stages improved into a tight run inside JUST VICTORY which was hanging in. Over the concluding stages, DOLPHIN STAR hung in. A Marcus (JUST VICTORY) explained when WINNING WAYS improved into a narrow run to his inside over the concluding stages, because his horse was hanging in badly, he was unable to ride it out to the winning post as he normally would because he felt to have done so it would allow JUST VICTORY to shift in and cause interference to its inside. The explanation of A Marcus was accepted. When questioned, Apprentice M W Leung (LEUNG'S FAVOURITE) explained the horse clearly races best when able to lead. He said LEUNG'S FAVOURITE began well from the inside gate, he immediately rode it along to obtain the lead, however, a number of horses went forward with him. He said approaching the winning post on the first occasion he slapped LEUNG'S FAVOURITE down the shoulder with the whip to try and ensure he held the lead, however, JUST VICTORY which crossed from his outside was showing superior pace and therefore he felt in the circumstances he would have had to make too much use of LEUNG'S FAVOURITE to hold that horse out and accordingly allowed it to cross near the 1200 Metres. He said in the Straight when asked for an effort LEUNG'S FAVOURITE did not respond to his riding. The explanation submitted by Apprentice M W Leung was accepted. LEUNG'S FAVOURITE was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, LEUNG'S FAVOURITE was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said there were no significant findings. WATCH KING, BROSE'S HONOR and OH GREAT were sent for sampling.
