Racing Incident Report

On jumping, PACIFIC ALLIANCE and SAINT THOMAS bumped when crowded for room between NOBLE SILENCE and SUNBELL, both of which shifted ground. SILENT PARTNER began awkwardly and got its head up. As the gates opened, HAPPY PARTNERS sat back, consequently was slow to begin and then on jumping was bumped by SERIOUS PLAY which shifted in. As a consequence of this, HAPPY PARTNERS raced behind midfield. Near the 1400 Metres, FIRST AMONG EQUALS was steadied away from the heels of SPARKLING STAR. In the early stages, SILENT PARTNER proved difficult to settle and raced its way into a forward position. Near the 1200 Metres, SILENT PARTNER and SPARKLING STAR raced tight. After the 1200 Metres, NOBLE SILENCE became unbalanced when being steadied away from the heels of AMBITIOUS TYCOON which steadied as it crossed to the rail in front. After the 1000 Metres, on several occasions SPARKLING STAR was bumped by SILENT PARTNER. As a consequence, SPARKLING STAR raced wide and without cover. Near the 300 Metres, after bumping with SAINT THOMAS, SPARKLING STAR, which was giving ground, shifted in and was steadied away from the heels of SUNBELL. SERIOUS PLAY, which was following SPARKLING STAR, was steadied and shifted to the outside of that horse. At the same time, DASHING WINNER, which was commencing to give ground, was steadied when crowded for room between SAINT THOMAS and HAPPY PARTNERS which was carried in by FIRST AMONG EQUALS (R Fradd) which shifted in when not properly clear. R Fradd was severely reprimanded and told in similar circumstances he would be expected to make a greater effort to prevent his mount from shifting ground. After the 100 Metre, PACIFIC ALLIANCE was steadied and shifted to the outside of AMBITIOUS TYCOON to continue going forward. A Delpech, the rider of LITTLE ELEPHANT, reported he believed there was something amiss with the horse and he became concerned with its action rounding the turn and for this reason he eased the horse out of the race. LITTLE ELEPHANT was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of LITTLE ELEPHANT after the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, LITTLE ELEPHANT will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Throughout the race, DASHING WINNER raced wide and without cover and making the turn after the 800 Metres hung out. BOLD WINNER and FIRST AMONG EQUALS were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 29 March 2004)
LITTLE ELEPHANT, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. LITTLE ELEPHANT was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer A T Millard yesterday morning. He said at this time the stable staff reported to him that following the race the horse had shown some signs of having possibly "tied up". However, at the time of being re-examined, LITTLE ELEPHANT was moving freely. As previously advised, LITTLE ELEPHANT will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.
