Racing Incident Report

When the gates opened, EQUUS ZEPHYRUS bounded in the air and lost ground. DANEPRINT, which was standing badly, was slow to begin. On jumping, PREMIER BURG was crowded for room between WE'RE BUDDIES which shifted in and ENERGETIC PRINCE which began awkwardly, stumbled and shifted out. From the outside gate, TIMBER CITY was immediately steadied and shifted across behind runners closer to the rail but at the rear. Making the Home Turn and in the Straight, MILLENNIUM SUPREME hung in. Near the 100 Metres, WE'RE BUDDIES and WAH YAN MASCOT raced tight. Over the concluding stages, NEW MILESTONE and O' SHINY hung in. Just prior to the winning post, ENERGETIC PRINCE was steadied away from the heels of O' SHINY which shifted in. M Zahra (TIME OF RED WINE) explained he had been instructed to lead on the horse if possible, accordingly he rode along in the early stages, however, when it became apparent that he did not have sufficient speed to lead, he steadied his mount in the hope of being able to obtain cover. He said after passing the winning post on the first occasion he was endeavouring to steady and shift in behind JUST VICTORY, however, his mount was reluctant to come back underneath him and while this was happening, WAH YAN MASCOT commenced to improve its position to his inside. He said in his opinion to have shifted in at that time would have resulted most probably in him causing interference to WAH YAN MASCOT, therefore he did not do so and as a result was obliged to race three wide and without cover. The explanation submitted by M Zahra was accepted. Y T Cheng (O' SHINY) said today drawn barrier 1 on the A course, he was instructed by the trainer, Mr Y O Wong, to make use of the horse in the early stages, travel further forward as is usual and if possible obtain a position behind the leaders. F Coetzee (TIMBER CITY) reported the horse was not comfortable racing around Happy Valley at its first time of asking. ENERGETIC PRINCE and TIMBER CITY were sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of both ENERGETIC PRINCE and TIMBER CITY after the race did not show any significant findings. WE'RE BUDDIES, JUST VICTORY and NEW MILESTONE were sent for sampling.
