Racing Incident Report
INDUSTRIAL PRIDE was slow to begin and shortly afterwards was steadied when crowded for room between THUNDER MAN and ABLE WIN which was carried out by UPBEAT. TANAHMERAH began awkwardly. TOP PRIZE was slow to begin. Shortly after the start, SILVERBIRD, which was a little slow to begin, was inconvenienced by GOLD FIELD which shifted out. Also shortly after the start, DEFLECT was crowded for room between THUNDER MAN and TANAHMERAH which got its head on the side and shifted in. Near the 1400 Metres, TANAHMERAH was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of CHEERFUL BOY. Making the turn at the 1000 Metres, GOLD FIELD became unbalanced. Throughout the race, MAGICAL LOT, which was to be ridden in a forward position from the outside gate, was obliged to race wide and without cover and after the 600 Metres gave ground. On straightening, TOP PRIZE was steadied and shifted in when awkwardly placed close to the heels of CHEERFUL BOY which was giving ground. At the 250 Metres, ABLE WIN, which had initially been inclined to lay in, became unbalanced when being shifted out away from GOLD FIELD which was giving ground. O Doleuze (DEFLECT), which was having its first Hong Kong race start today, said he was able to obtain a nice position behind the pace in the race, the horse travelled comfortably until prior to straightening where it failed to respond to his riding and in the Straight gave ground noticeably. He was unable to offer any explanation for the performance of DEFLECT. DEFLECT was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, DEFLECT was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said there were no significant findings. The performance of DEFLECT, which finished distanced, was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, DEFLECT will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. MAGICAL LOT was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of MAGICAL LOT after the race did not show any significant findings. UPBEAT, THUNDER MAN and TOP PRIZE were sent for sampling.
