Racing Incident Report
SAMMY TREASURE was difficult to load. Before being allowed to race again, SAMMY TREASURE will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. Shortly after the start, OH GREAT was checked and A BETTER DRAGON hampered when these runners were crowded for room between ETERNAL FUN and SOARING ANGEL, both of which shifted ground. FORTUNE LAD bounded in the air at the start. Near the 1300 Metres, ASIA STAR was steadied when momentarily crowded for room between DANEFACTOR and SHANGHAI DELIGHT. Near the 1200 Metres, ETERNAL FUN got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of LA MERVEILLE. At the 600 Metres, OH GREAT was crowded for room inside ETERNAL FUN which was inclined to lay in. The Stewards overruled the protest/objection lodged by Mr D E Ferraris, the trainer of SOARING ANGEL, which finished 2nd, against LA MERVEILLE (F Coetzee) being declared the winner. Mr Ferraris had alleged interference to his horse over the concluding stages. The Stewards considered that whilst LA MERVEILLE shifted some ground over the final 60 Metres and carried SOARING ANGEL in slightly, they did not consider, bearing in mind the neck margin between the two horses at the finish, that SOARING ANGEL would have finished in front of LA MERVEILLE had the inconvenience which did take place not occurred. Accordingly the Judge's placings as semaphored were confirmed. At the conclusion of this hearing, Mr Ferraris was advised in the opinion of the Stewards the protest/objection lodged by him bordered on being deemed frivolous. Passing the 200 Metres, OH GREAT shifted out under pressure. Because of this, G Mossé, its rider, stopped riding and straightened his mount passing the 100 Metres. GREAT KID also shifted out under pressure in the Straight. GOOD FRIENDS, which was following GREAT KID, was obliged to shift out as a consequence. SHANGHAI DELIGHT raced wide throughout and in the Straight dropped out. SHANGHAI DELIGHT was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SHANGHAI DELIGHT after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of SHANGHAI DELIGHT was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, SHANGHAI DELIGHT will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A BETTER DRAGON, LA MERVEILLE and SOARING ANGEL were sent for sampling.
