Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the Start, it was noted SUPER WIN FORTUNE had its tongue over the bit. This was corrected before the horse was placed in the barrier. HERO OF ABALONE began awkwardly and lost ground. Shortly after the start, DRAGON HORSE lost its position after being bumped by SUPER WIN FORTUNE. After the 800 Metres, ABLE EAGLE became unbalanced when being steadied away from the heels of MANIFEST which shifted in when barely clear. SOUTHERN LIGHT, which was following ABLE EAGLE, was steadied to avoid the heels of that horse. Also after the 800 Metres, DRAGON HORSE was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of HEKYLL N' JYDE. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, DRAGON HORSE, which was proving difficult to control for its rider, Apprentice C K Tong, was checked when awkwardly placed tight outside SOUTHERN LIGHT and inside the heels of HEKYLL N' JYDE. In this incident, SOUTHERN LIGHT also became unbalanced. No action was taken. After the 600 Metres, ABLE EAGLE was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of CARELESS WHISPER which got its head up and commenced to hang out. For the major part of the Home Straight, HELENE ELEGANCE hung in and proved difficult to ride. Near the 100 Metres, AMO was shifted to the inside of MANIFEST to continue going forward. When questioned, R Fradd (GOLDEN FARM) said the horse began well and he rode along to allow the horse to use its natural speed in the early stages. He said CAPTAIN HAPPY which had drawn wide had been hard ridden to go forward and cross runners to its inside and had always been in advance of him. He said after the 700 Metres he steadied GOLDEN FARM when CAPTAIN HAPPY momentarily shifted in when not clear of him. He said although CAPTAIN HAPPY then shifted back out, it was apparent CAPTAIN HAPPY would cross to the fence in the lead, he therefore elected to take a sit behind that horse. R Fradd was told where circumstances permit he should endeavour to hold his position. HEKYLL N' JYDE was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that HEKYLL N' JYDE had bled from both nostrils. CAPTAIN HAPPY and MANIFEST were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted CAPTAIN HAPPY had lost its left front plate.
