Racing Incident Report

After being boxed, NOBLE BOSS became fractious and endeavoured to break through underneath the front gates of its stall. Acting on veterinary advice that NOBLE BOSS was not suitable to race, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of the horse. Before being allowed to race again, NOBLE BOSS will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. On jumping, CITY GLORY got its head up, began awkwardly and lost ground. LUCKY SUPERSTAR was slow to begin. Near the 1400 Metres, NOBLE HEART was steadied away from the heels of GOLD SANDFIELD which got its head on the side and shifted in away from ABLE MARS which at this time was crossing to lead on the fence. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, ABLE MARS, which was being steadied away from the heels of CHAMP DRAGON as that horse crossed to the rail, became unbalanced after being bumped on the hindquarters by JUBILOSO which shifted in while hanging. After this, ABLE MARS shifted to the outside of CHAMP DRAGON. As a consequence, JUBILOSO was carried wider. After the 800 Metres, LUCKY SUPERSTAR was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of ON SHAN EXPRESS. Near the 300 Metres, JUBILOSO, which was giving ground, was checked when crowded for room between SWEETIE (Apprentice H W Lai) which shifted in slightly and NOBLE HEART which after being held up for running was shifted out in an endeavour to improve outside DESERT STRIKE (A Delpech) as DESERT STRIKE itself shifted ground. For some distance after this incident, NOBLE HEART was then held up and unable to improve between DESERT STRIKE and SWEETIE which continued to shift in. Although the incident was one of some significance, the Stewards were not able to attribute blame to one rider. However, Apprentice Lai and A Delpech were told in similar circumstances they would be expected to exercise more care than they had on this occasion. Over the concluding stages, CLASSIC KING hung in. C Williams (JUBILOSO) said the horse had been proving somewhat difficult to settle when racing in a tongue tie at its recent starts, therefore today with the tongue tie removed it was decided to allow the horse to travel where it was comfortable. He said JUBILOSO began well and travelled into a forward position, however, throughout the race when racing wide and without cover hung in and proved difficult to ride. He said despite being checked near the 300 Metres, in the circumstances of today's race this was of little significance to the horse's performance. E Saint-Martin (GOLD SANDFIELD) said from a more favourable draw today it was decided to ride the horse a little further forward than at its most recent start when the horse was successful. He said GOLD SANDFIELD was able to obtain a forward position in the early stages, but never appeared comfortable racing inside other runners. He said at its last start in what was a quickly run race GOLD SANDFIELD from the outside draw always raced away from the fence. He said in the Straight after being brought to the outside of other runners GOLD SANDFIELD closed the race off strongly. Mr C H Yip, trainer of GOLD SANDFIELD, was unable to offer any explanation for the horse's performance. He said the horse had been well fancied by the stable on the strength of its work leading into today's race. He confirmed the intention from a more favourable barrier had been to have GOLD SANDFIELD ridden further forward than last start. Mr Yip said despite GOLD SANDFIELD having not placed when carrying a weight of greater than 118 lbs, he did not believe today's 127 lbs was a contributing factor to the horse's performance. He said immediately after the race E Saint-Martin reported the horse was not comfortable racing inside other runners today. He said in future it will be the intention to have the horse ridden further back than it was today and also endeavour to have it travelling outside other runners where circumstances permit. GOLD SANDFIELD was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. After the race, GOLD SANDFIELD was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said there were no significant findings. CHAMP DRAGON and TATTLETALE were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of CHAMP DRAGON and TATTLETALE after the race did not show any significant findings. CLASSIC KING and NOBLE HEART were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported JUBILOSO had sustained a laceration to the left hind pastern.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 14 February 2005)
TATTLETALE, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. TATTLETALE was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer A S Cruz last Saturday morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in the left hind leg. Before being allowed to race again, TATTLETALE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
