Racing Incident Report

BROWN BEAUTY was slow to begin. When the gates opened, GOT IT GOOD bounded in the air and lost ground. PRESENT TREASURE began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped ACCLAMATION. SUPER SPRINT began awkwardly, shifted in and was steadied away from the heels of RISING WIN. Near the 1200 Metres, RISING WIN was steadied away from the heels of JUST IN TIME which itself was steadied away from the heels of CHINA WORLD which was being restrained in front. Making the turn at the 1000 Metres, ACCLAMATION and PRESENT TREASURE proved difficult to settle. After the 1000 Metres, FREE WAY was steadied away from the heels of WATCHMAN. In the middle stages, DESERT STORM lost ground when racing behind FREE WAY which was having difficulty maintaining its position. After the 600 Metres, FREE WAY, which got its head on the side and commenced to hang in, was steadied away from the heels of CHINA WORLD which at this time shifted to the outside of COULDN'T CARE LESS. In the Straight, FREE WAY hung in and after the 200 Metres bumped JUST IN TIME. When questioned, O Doleuze (CHINA WORLD) said the horse began well, he rode along to clear runners to his inside and crossed to the fence passing the winning post on the first occasion. He said he then took hold of his mount in an attempt to steady the tempo of the race. He said when he did this COULDN'T CARE LESS improved towards his outside and he decided shortly after the 1200 Metres to allow that horse to continue on and cross him and provide him with cover. He said in making this decision he did not anticipate COULDN'T CARE LESS itself would steady the pace to the degree it did after reaching the lead and he was mindful that when CHINA WORLD was successful at its most recent start, the horse raced with cover behind the leaders albeit in a one wide position. He said when COULDN'T CARE LESS steadied the tempo near the 1000 Metres WATCHMAN improved to race outside that horse and he was therefore unable to shift away from the fence. He said when PRESENT TREASURE went forward into the lead at the 700 Metres, COULDN'T CARE LESS was not able to quicken and consequently he was unable to improve his position on CHINA WORLD. He said near the 600 Metres he shifted away from the rail to commence going forward and then was obliged to shift wider on straightening to obtain clear running. O Doleuze was told his explanation would be reported. When questioned regarding the poor performance of COULDN'T CARE LESS, G Mossé said he had been asked by the trainer to ride the horse in a forward position. He said COULDN'T CARE LESS did not begin well from the outside barrier and in order to carry out his riding instructions he then rode his mount along until reaching the lead after the 1200 Metres. He said he was then able to steady COULDN'T CARE LESS, however, the horse came under pressure after the 600 Metres and failed to respond to his riding, then in the Straight gave ground and particularly over the final 200 Metres gave ground quickly. G Mossé said in his opinion COULDN'T CARE LESS raced in a manner which indicated it would be better suited ridden with cover. COULDN'T CARE LESS was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, COULDN'T CARE LESS was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said there were no significant findings. The performance of COULDN'T CARE LESS, a last start winner, was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, COULDN'T CARE LESS will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. B Prebble (ACCLAMATION), which was having its first up run tonight from a lengthy spell, explained the horse would not relax in the run and because of this he allowed it to stride forward in the middle stages. He said as a consequence of the manner the horse had raced, it did not finish tonight's race off and tailed out. ACCLAMATION was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, ACCLAMATION was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said there were no significant findings. The performance of ACCLAMATION was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, ACCLAMATION will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. PRESENT TREASURE and RISING WIN were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 17 February 2005)
COULDN'T CARE LESS, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. COULDN'T CARE LESS was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer C S Shum this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in the right hind leg. As previously advised, COULDN'T CARE LESS will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being permitted to race again.
