Racing Incident Report
After arriving at the Start, Apprentice K L Chui (EXPEDITIOUS) expressed concern over the action of the horse. EXPEDITIOUS was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said the horse was lame in the right front leg and was not suitable to race., Acting on this advice, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of EXPEDITIOUS. Before being allowed to race again, EXPEDITIOUS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After being boxed, VINTAGE GOLD became fractious, momentarily had its head under the front gates of the stall, then sat down. VINTAGE GOLD was removed from the stall and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. Before being allowed to race again, VINTAGE GOLD will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. Just prior to the start being effected, TOWERING FEELING lunged forward and broke open the front gates of its stall momentarily before the remaining gates opened. FORTUNE BOY began awkwardly. From the outside gate, HOLIGAN was taken back in the field but to a position close to the rail. Passing the 1500 Metres, NICE KING, which had been proving difficult to settle, was steadied away from the heels of RIGHT FRAAR (A Delpech) which shifted in. A Delpech will be advised to exercise more care. Passing the 1200 Metres, JADE DRAGONFLY and VINTAGE GOLD were momentarily crowded for room inside TOWERING FEELING which shifted in. Near the 600 Metres, NOBLE HEART was momentarily steadied away from the heels of BOOMING CITY. From entering the Straight until approaching the 200 Metres, FIRST BABY was held up and unable to improve. In the early part of the Straight, BOOMING CITY had some difficulty obtaining clear running. Approaching the 300 Metres, JADE DRAGONFLY was steadied and shifted to the outside of TOWERING FEELING to obtain clear running. Apprentice C K Tong (FLYING BISHOP) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that after the 200 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of FIRST BABY and DARE TO WIN, resulting in FIRST BABY being checked and DARE TO WIN being checked severely. Apprentice Tong was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Sunday 11 February 2007 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting next Sunday 4 February 2007. In addition, Apprentice Tong was fined $10,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating one further raceday. Throughout the race, TOWERING FEELING travelled wide and without cover. NICE KING was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of NICE KING after the race did not show any significant findings. TOWERING FEELING, SKYVIEW BAR and JADE DRAGONFLY were sent for sampling.
