Racing Incident Report
At declaration time, O Doleuze was declared as the rider of both KEY WINNER and CLASSIC KING. It was established that O Doleuze had a firm commitment to ride KEY WINNER. As such, the Stewards permitted E Saint-Martin to be substituted as the rider of CLASSIC KING. For this declaration error, O Doleuze was fined $2,000. SOLAR was slow to begin. Shortly after the start, DURABLE and AMAZING CHOICE raced tight between ABLE STANDARD and SPACED which when being ridden along shifted out slightly. Near the 1600 Metres, VINCERE was momentarily crowded for room inside SERIOUS PLAY. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, DURABLE was steadied away from the heels of SPACED. Near the 1000 Metres, CLASSIC KING was shifted to the outside of BAUHINIA and in doing so bumped SOLAR. Rounding the Home Turn, KEY WINNER was momentarily held up on the heels of SOLAR. Near the 300 Metres, ABLE STANDARD and VINCERE brushed as a result of ABLE STANDARD attempting to shift to the outside of WONG'S FAVOURITE to obtain clear running. AMAZING CHOICE, which was following VINCERE, was checked to avoid the heels of that horse. AMAZING CHOICE was then shifted out and approaching the 100 Metres was steadied when disappointed for running between DURABLE and CLASSIC KING which shifted in. AMAZING CHOICE was then shifted to the outside of CLASSIC KING to obtain clear running. Approaching the 100 Metres, B Prebble (DURABLE) momentarily dropped his left rein. Near the 75 Metres, VINCERE was awkwardly placed on the heels of SERIOUS PLAY and shifted out, resulting in DURABLE becoming unbalanced when crowded for room between that horse and CLASSIC KING which shifted in. For the majority of the race, SOLAR and WATCHMAN travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, Apprentice H W Lai (SERIOUS PLAY) stated passing the 200 Metres he commenced riding SERIOUS PLAY with the whip in the right hand, the horse started to lay in, therefore approaching the 100 Metres he stopped riding momentarily and straightened his mount before resuming riding the horse out to the finish of the race. When questioned, F Coetzee stated when placed in the barriers, BAUHINIA's head made contact with the front gates of the stall. He stated he attempted to lead on BAUHINIA as instructed, however, there were a number of runners being ridden aggressively underneath him at that stage, he therefore elected to take a seat and obtain cover behind those horses. He added when amongst horses BAUHINIA appeared reluctant to hold its position and although he was somewhat crowded for room near the 800 Metres, BAUHINIA continued to be unable to hold its position and consequently raced well back. BAUHINIA was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of BAUHINIA after the race did not show any significant findings. DURABLE, CLASSIC KING and SERIOUS PLAY were sent for sampling.
