Racing Incident Report

RICE FIELD was withdrawn on 16.2.07 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (fever). Before being allowed to race again, RICE FIELD will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. On jumping, WATCH WHAT HAPPENS got its head up when being restrained. Shortly after the start, ABLE ONE was steadied when tightened for room between IMPERIAL APPLAUSE and SUPER PEGASUS. Near the 1500 Metres, FULL OF JOY was checked away from the heels of LUCKY CHAMPION (Apprentice K W Tsui) which shifted in when not properly clear. Apprentice Tsui was severely reprimanded and told to exercise greater care. WATCH WHAT HAPPENS, which was following and proving difficult to settle, was checked to avoid the heels of FULL OF JOY. Near the 1400 Metres, FULL OF JOY, BULLISH CASH and IMPERIAL APPLAUSE which was racing keenly were steadied to avoid the heels of SUPER PEGASUS (D Nikolic) which shifted in when not properly clear. D Nikolic will be reprimanded and told to exercise greater care. LOTZATOW which was following FULL OF JOY, was steadied in consequence. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, CHEEKY was steadied to avoid the heels of WATCH WHAT HAPPENS which when continuing to prove difficult to settle shifted in. After the 800 Metres, JIANG JUN was left racing without cover. From on straightening until after the 200 Metres, CHEEKY was not able to obtain clear running. In the early part of the Straight, LOTZATOW had difficulty obtaining clear running, then commenced to close the race off strongly, however, over the final 200 Metres was again unable to obtain clear running and because of this was not properly tested. At the 300 Metres, BULLISH CASH was steadied when disappointed for running between LUCKY CHAMPION and EQUATOR KID which was carried in by ABLE ONE which got its head on the side and shifted ground. At the 50 Metres, EQUATOR KID was steadied away from the heels of FULL OF JOY which got its head on the side and shifted in. For the majority of the Home Straight, WATCH WHAT HAPPENS was not able to obtain clear running and as a consequence was not properly tested. When questioned, Apprentice K W Tsui said he had been instructed if the tempo of the race was strong he should ride the horse from behind, however, it was acceptable should the tempo be slow to ride the horse in a more forward position. He said he rode LUCKY CHAMPION along for a short distance and when no other horse took up the running he crossed to the fence in the lead. He said when he did this he immediately steadied LUCKY CHAMPION to run the race at a slow tempo. When questioned regarding the poor performance of IMPERIAL APPLAUSE, B Prebble said just prior to the start being effected his mount became fractious and lunged forward. He said IMPERIAL APPLAUSE began satisfactorily, travelled reasonably, however, was inconvenienced when SUPER PEGASUS shifted in near the 1400 Metres. He said after this he came back to race behind ABLE ONE to ensure his mount which was travelling keenly had cover. He said in the Straight IMPERIAL APPLAUSE did not quicken as he had hoped. IMPERIAL APPLAUSE was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. After the race, IMPERIAL APPLAUSE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse had sustained an abrasion to the left hind cannon. ABLE ONE and FIVE GRAINS were sent for sampling.
