Racing Incident Report
GOLDEN CHOPSTICKS was withdrawn on 11.4.17 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter MANFUL STAR (H W Lai). Before being allowed to race again, GOLDEN CHOPSTICKS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
WHISTLE UP began awkwardly and then shortly after the start was steadied away from the heels of GOLDEN DEER which shifted in.
CAREFREE LET GO shifted out at the start and bumped CALL ME AWESOME. When being ridden along, CAREFREE LET GO (Apprentice H T Mo) then shifted out further, resulting in CALL ME AWESOME and MANFUL STAR being crowded for room inside GRACYDAD. Apprentice Mo was advised that in similar circumstances he would be expected to react quicker than he did on this occasion to his mounts shifting ground and not to be riding them along.
From the outside barriers, GOLDEN DEER and DOUBLE DOUBLE were shifted across behind runners shortly after the start.
Shortly after the start, SUNNY ORIENT was steadied when crowded for room between GRACYDAD and MANFUL STAR which shifted out after beginning awkwardly.
STARLIGHT was steadied and shifted across to obtain cover in the early stages.
Making the turn at the 1000 Metres, STARLIGHT was steadied away from the heels of GOLDEN DEER (K C Leung) which shifted in when not properly clear. K C Leung was reprimanded.
Passing the 1000 Metres, MANFUL STAR became unbalanced and shifted out towards RAICHU.
After the 1000 Metres, KWAICHUNG BROTHERS got its head up when travelling keenly and awkwardly placed close to the heels of PRINCE HARMONY.
Making the turn near the 550 Metres, RAICHU got its head on the side and shifted out. After this, RAICHU commenced to give ground abruptly, resulting in GOLDEN DEER, which was racing tight to the inside of RAICHU, being hampered and losing ground. STARLIGHT, which was following GOLDEN DEER, shifted out abruptly away from the heels of that horse. RAICHU, which travelled wide and without cover throughout the race, then continued to give ground abruptly and finished tailed out. The performance of RAICHU was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, RAICHU will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
PRINCE HARMONY lay out rounding the Home Turn.
Passing the 250 Metres, CAREFREE LET GO and KWAICHUNG BROTHERS bumped.
Approaching the 200 Metres, GRACYDAD shifted in and made contact with PRINCE HARMONY. Then near the 50 Metres, GRACYDAD again shifted in marginally and brushed PRINCE HARMONY. Over the concluding stages, PRINCE HARMONY and GRACYDAD continued to race tight.
When questioned, K Teetan stated that STARLIGHT travelled reasonably well in the early and middle stages, but after losing momentum near the 500 Metres appeared to lose confidence and then did not finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of STARLIGHT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
After the race, C Schofield (KWAICHUNG BROTHERS) was unable to offer any explanation for the horse’s disappointing performance. He said from the inside barrier KWAICHUNG BROTHERS was able to obtain a good run behind the leaders and was shifted to the outside of GRACYDAD into clear running near the 400 Metres. He said KWAICHUNG BROTHERS came under pressure in the early part of the Straight, did not close off the race and was disappointing. A veterinary inspection of KWAICHUNG BROTHERS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
PRINCE HARMONY and GRACYDAD were sent for sampling.
