Near the 350 Metres made contact with HE WAS ME when endeavouring to obtain clear running. Over the final 200 Metres did not obtain clear running when held up behind DECRELOT and SOMETHING JONAH.
9 3 SMART ENGINEER (K244) 12 R Kingscote Bumped at the start. Passing the 350 Metres was steadied and shifted to the outside of EURO ROCKS to continue into clear running. SMART ENGINEER then had some difficulty obtaining clear running for a short distance thereafter when racing tight between EURO ROCKS and GALE SAGA. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
5 4 SOMETHING JONAH (K024) 14 J Orman Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event. J Orman stated that from the outside barrier he was instructed to take up a forward position. Trainer D J Hall confirmed the instructions and stated that he issued those instructions on the basis that with sheepskin cheek pieces being applied today he was of the opinion the horse would show more pace and it would be difficult to make up ground in the Home Straight from back in the field.

M L Yeung stated that after enjoying a reasonably good run with cover KA YING POWER did not finish the race off in the Home Straight. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse’s trachea. Before being allowed to race again, KA YING POWER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

8 11 PATCH OF TIME (H483) 12 K Teetan K Teetan reported that from the outside barrier he was given the option of taking up a forward position if his mount jumped well. He said when PATCH OF TIME commenced well he elected to go forward and comply with his instructions but was unable to cross runners to his inside and as a result PATCH OF TIME raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event. Trainer M Newnham confirmed the instructions issued.

C L Chau reported that in the Home Straight when placed under pressure his mount failed to respond and when not in a competitive position he eased it down over the final 200 Metres. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse’s trachea. The performance of ZETTA FORCE, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, ZETTA FORCE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Before being allowed to race again, ALSONSO will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Z Purton reported that his mount found it difficult to finish the race off under its top weight of 135 lbs. He said as a consequence DERRYNBLUE lost ground and then in the early stages did not travel well. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

12 6 MALPENSA (K545) 1 Z Purton When questioned Z Purton stated that his mount was fractious in the starting gates and as a consequence jumped only fairly. He said throughout the early stages MALPENSA was reluctant to hold its position to the inside of other runners and approaching the first turn near the 900 Metres he was obliged to severely check his mount when MALPENSA shifted out when reluctant to hold its position to the inside of GREAT SPIRIT which shifted in slightly. He added that as a consequence MALPENSA lost significant ground and did not finish the race off thereafter. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The racing manners of MALPENSA were considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, MALPENSA will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial around a bend in Hong Kong from an inside barrier. Noted to have lost its left front plate after the race.

5 3 AUDACIOUS PURSUIT (K398) 13 H Bowman Crowded on jumping between NEZHA and MULTIDUTCH which shifted out. From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. When questioned H Bowman stated that from a wide barrier he was instructed to find cover on the horse. He said when caught wide in the early stages he was obliged to settle further back in the field to ensure that he complied with his instructions to obtain cover. When questioned regarding his riding from the 600 Metres and the reason his mount was held up for clear running in the Home Straight after improving to the inside of SPECIAL HEDGE, H Bowman stated that from the 600 Metres he did not wish to make a forward move as he was concerned had he shifted out that SPECIAL HEDGE would force his mount wider. He said as a consequence he remained racing behind SPECIAL HEDGE and when that runner then shifted out near the 500 Metres AUDACIOUS PURSUIT, which was travelling well, then improved to the inside of SPECIAL HEDGE. He added that when SPECIAL HEDGE did not continue to improve into the race AUDACIOUS PURSUIT then became held up for clear running when he was required to shift his mount to the outside of SPECIAL HEDGE in the early stages of the Home Straight to obtain clear running. He said after he improved to the outside of SPECIAL HEDGE leaving the 300 Metres AUDACIOUS PURSUIT finished the race off in a satisfactory manner. After considering his explanation the Stewards found the tactics adopted by Jockey Bowman were reasonable in the circumstances.

When questioned M Chadwick stated that throughout the middle stages his mount raced keenly and as a consequence was steadied away from ETERNAL RICHNESS. He said near the 500 Metres AURORA PATCH became positioned too close to the heels of ETERNAL RICHNESS despite his efforts to maintain a safety distance behind that horse. He said as a consequence AURORA PATCH blundered and shifted out abruptly, resulting in LOYAL BRIGHT being checked to avoid AURORA PATCH shifting out, resulting in AKASHVANI and SUNNY DA BEST being severely checked and running wide and also resulting in NEW FUTURE FOLKS being checked. After considering the evidence the Stewards found the racing manners of AURORA PATCH was the principal reason for the horse shifting out near the 500 Metres. A warning was placed on the racing manners of the horse. Sent for sampling post-race.
