5 7 GOLD TACK (H106) 4 M F Poon Shortly after the start became unbalanced when crowded between APOLAR FIGHTER and THE WAY WE WIN. Near the 1400 Metres was momentarily crowded by HE WAS ME which shifted in slightly before being corrected by its rider M L Yeung. Making the first turn near the 1300 Metres was eased to allow LAPRAS (M Chadwick) to cross. M Chadwick was advised to ensure he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground. 1 10 APOLAR FIGHTER (J169) 5 C L Chau (-2) Sent for sampling post-race.
10 11 THE WAY WE WIN (J493) 3 H Bentley Jumped awkwardly and shortly after the start was steadied when crowded between GOLD TACK and MANYTHANKS FOREVER which shifted out abruptly. Approaching the 600 Metres was shifted to a position one-off to follow MANYTHANKS FOREVER. Near the 500 Metres MANYTHANKS FOREVER then shifted out abruptly when being steadied to avoid LAPRAS which resulted in THE WAY WE WIN improving to the inside of MANYTHANKS FOREVER. A short distance later THE WAY WE WIN struck the heels of MANYTHANKS FOREVER when that runner shifted back in to resume its position. As the Stewards were satisfied that there was no rider error involved in the incident no action was taken. After the event H Bentley stated that his mount settled further back in the field after being crowded at the start. He said after THE WAY WE WIN lost ground when it blundered near the 600 Metres it did not finish the race off thereafter. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
12 12 LAPRAS (H374) 8 M Chadwick Over the final 100 Metres could not be ridden out when held up behind COSMO LIGHT which was giving ground.

4 2 NORTHERN BEAST (H233) 1 Z Purton Sent for sampling post-race.
2 3 CHAIN OF GOLD (J138) 12 K C Leung From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Sent for sampling post-race.

Before being allowed to race again, WITHOUT DELAY will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
12 5 MASSIVE FIRE (K466) 4 C L Chau (-2) Bumped shortly after the start and became unbalanced.
5 6 GLORIOUS JOURNEY (J137) 10 M Chadwick From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Making the Home Turn was unable to continue forward when disappointed for clear running between PRINCE ALEX and CHAIN OF GOLD. As a result GLORIOUS JOURNEY was then shifted to the inside of PRINCE ALEX near the 300 Metres to continue into clear running. Approaching the 200 Metres GLORIOUS JOURNEY then had difficulty obtaining clear running when held up behind METAL KING and was then shifted to the inside of METAL KING to obtain clear running.
6 7 PRINCE ALEX (G307) 11 H Bowman Near the 200 Metres raced tight to the inside of CHAIN OF GOLD.
8 8 METAL KING (K135) 3 M F Poon Bumped shortly after the start and became unbalanced. Near the 950 Metres was steadied to avoid HANDSOME BOMB when racing keenly.

1 10 CELTIC TIMES (G230) 9 K Teetan Bumped shortly after the start. When questioned regarding the improved performance of CELTIC TIMES Trainer K L Man stated that the horse had not raced at the Happy Valley track for a considerable period of time. He added at its last start at Happy Valley over the same distance the horse performed well and he attributed tonight’s improved performance to CELTIC TIMES appreciating racing at the Happy Valley circuit. Sent for sampling post-race.
9 11 PERPETUAL POWER (J326) 8 M L Yeung After travelling a short distance was crowded for room between CELTIC TIMES and SAMARKAND which got its head up and shifted out.
7 12 HANDSOME BOMB (H402) 5 A Atzeni After the event A Atzeni stated that he was able to obtain a position with cover in the early stages behind NO OTHER CHOICE with the pace of the event being run inside of standard time. He said entering the Back Straight approaching the 900 Metres he felt the pace of the event eased and as his mount had a light weight he elected to shift out and ride forward to cross NO OTHER CHOICE. He said when NO OTHER CHOICE then held its position to his inside for some distance he was obliged to make further use of HANDSOME BOMB to cross that runner. He further stated that entering the Home Straight HANDSOME BOMB then finished the race off only fairly. After considering his explanation and taking into account the sectional times of the event which confirmed his evidence that the pace between the 1200 Metres and the 800 Metres had eased, the tactics he adopted were found to be reasonable in the circumstances. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Noted to have lost its right front plate after the race.

10 1 FORTUNE WHISKEY (J153) 10 E C W Wong (-5) Jumped awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with GREAT LOOKING. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
3 2 THE PERFECT MATCH (J253) 8 C L Chau (-2) Bumped shortly after the start. The Stewards considered a protest/objection lodged by C L Chau, rider of THE PERFECT MATCH, 3rd placegetter, against THUNDER PRINCE (H Bowman) being declared 2nd placegetter alleging interference near the 200 Metres. After considering the evidence the Stewards found that after being held up for clear running behind KING GLORIOSO approaching the 200 Metres THUNDER PRINCE then shifted out and made contact with THE PERFECT MATCH, resulting in that horse being taken out slightly. As the Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that had that incident not occurred, THE PERFECT MATCH would have finished in advance of THUNDER PRINCE, the protest/objection was overruled and weighed-in was declared on the numbers semaphored by the Judge. At a subsequent inquiry H Bowman was advised in similar circumstances he should exercise more care. In assessing the incident the Stewards took into consideration that Jockey Bowman advised that he had anticipated KING GLORIOSO to continue to shift in which would have presented him with clear running. When questioned regarding his riding between the 300 Metres and the 200 Metres and as to whether there was an opportunity to ride his mount with more vigour C L Chau stated that he was asked to obtain a position where comfortable but did not place his mount under pressure too soon as THE PERFECT MATCH was found to have bled previously. He said with these instructions in mind, after entering the Home Straight, whilst encouraging his horse to improve, he did not ride it with full vigour having regard to his instructions and also the fact that THE PERFECT MATCH lay in during that section of the race. He added that when he reached the 200 Metres he then applied full vigour to his mount and THE PERFECT MATCH finished the race off well following contact with THUNDER PRINCE. Trainer C S Shum confirmed the instructions and the reasons as to why such instructions were issued and expressed satisfaction with Jockey Chau’s riding. Having considered the evidence the Stewards found the tactics adopted by Jockey Chau were reasonable in the circumstances. After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on THE PERFECT MATCH at the request of Trainer C S Shum. The Veterinary Surgeon said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse’s trachea. Before being allowed to race again, THE PERFECT MATCH will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
9 3 UP WITH CHARM (K139) 12 C Y Ho Jumped awkwardly. From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Assistant Trainer W H Ip confirmed that the instructions were to ride the horse in a conservative manner in the early stages to offset the outside barrier. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
7 4 IMPENDING LEGACY (K486) 7 A Atzeni A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

11 1 SUNDAY'S SERENADE (J231) 8 Z Purton Bumped on jumping. From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Approaching the 1300 Metres raced tight to the inside of FORTUNATE SON. After the event Z Purton stated that after settling towards the back of the field his mount was unable to make up ground in the Home Straight due to the early and middle stages of the event being run outside of standard time. He added that in the Home Straight LO RIDER finished the race off only fairly from back in the field. Trainer C Fownes confirmed the intention was to hold a more forward position. He added in the early stages he was satisfied that Jockey Bentley had obtained a position back in the field as LO RIDER has a tendency to race keenly when ridden along in the early stages.
