Racing Incident Report

Initially Apprentice K L Chui accepted firm engagements to ride both CANNONISE and GALLANT FALCON. It was established that Apprentice Chui had accepted the ride on GALLANT FALCON prior to that on CANNONISE and therefore he was confirmed as the rider of GALLANT FALCON. Y T Cheng was substituted as the rider of CANNONISE. For this breach, Apprentice Chui was fined $2,000. MULLAAD was slow to begin. Shortly after the start, GALLANT FALCON and TOM'S SIX were checked when crowded for room between DOWN TOWN and EGYPTIAN RA, both of which shifted ground. SOUNDS BEST began awkwardly and was then steadied when crowded for room between ZERO IN and WINNING REWARD, both of which shifted ground. In the early stages, EGYPTIAN RA, DOWN TOWN and WIN AGAIN proved difficult to settle. For a considerable distance after straightening, SOUNDS BEST was unable to obtain clear running. Near the 300 Metres, ZERO IN was checked when crowded for room between WIN AGAIN which got its head on the side and shifted in and DOWN TOWN (C Munce) which at this time shifted to the outside of FLYING SPRINTER to obtain clear running. In the circumstances, no action was taken, however, C Munce was told to exercise greater care. To relieve crowding in this incident, WIN AGAIN was shifted out and in doing so bumped the hindquarters of EGYPTIAN RA. At the 150 Metres, SOUNDS BEST was steadied when disappointed for running between WIN AGAIN and WINNING REWARD which at this time shifted in. Throughout the race, ZERO IN travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. D Whyte (HAR HAR CHARMS) was unable to offer any explanation for the poor performance of the horse. He said on straightening he placed HAR HAR CHARMS under pressure in an endeavour to improve between CANNONISE and FLYING SPRINTER, however, the horse did not respond to his riding. He said after the 300 Metres HAR HAR CHARMS and FLYING SPRINTER bumped on two occasions. He said at this time HAR HAR CHARMS became unbalanced in its action and from that point onwards failed to finish the race off. HAR HAR CHARMS was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. ZERO IN was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of HAR HAR CHARMS and ZERO IN after the race did not show any significant findings. DOWN TOWN and EGYPTIAN RA were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 3 July 2006)
ZERO IN, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. ZERO IN was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer A S Cruz this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in the left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, ZERO IN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
