Racing Incident Report
After being placed in the barrier, AGE OF RED WINE was very fractious. Before being allowed to race again, AGE OF RED WINE will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. AGE OF RED WINE began awkwardly and then was bumped by FLYING KENNY which shifted in. FLYING KENNY then shifted further ground away from EASTKOWLOON SPIRIT and caused crowding on its inside to SHOGUN and DO IT WELL. Shortly after the start, HANDBAG DRAGON was steadied when crowded for room between BRAVE COMMANDER and WINNING SMILE which shifted out. After this, HANDBAG DRAGON tailed out. The performance of HANDBAG DRAGON was considered unacceptable. Before the horse will be permitted to race again, it must perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. HANDBAG DRAGON was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, HANDBAG DRAGON was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse had a restricted hind limb action and was lame in the right front leg. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, WINNING SMILE got its head on the side, hung out badly, shifted out and was checked away from the heels of NEW MILESTONE. BRAVE COMMANDER, which was racing to the outside of WINNING SMILE, was checked in consequence. After this, WINNING SMILE continued to hang out badly. As WINNING SMILE has performed similarly in the past, the horse will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial around a bend before being permitted to race again. For a short distance approaching the Home Turn, HAPPY KID was held up and unable to improve between AMBITION which shifted out slightly and NEW MILESTONE. After the 300 Metres, NEW MILESTONE, which was racing greenly, was momentarily steadied away from the heels of HAPPY KID which shifted out to improve. W C Marwing (SHOGUN), which performed poorly, said the horse proved very difficult to settle in the early and middle stages. He said because of this in the early part of the Straight he nursed the horse for a short distance in the hope that it would then be able to close the race off. He said after the 400 Metres he momentarily had difficultly obtaining clear running between DO IT WELL and EASTKOWLOON SPIRIT, however, after obtaining a clear run the horse did not close the race off due in his opinion to the manner in which it raced in the early and middle stages. AMBITION and BEAUTIFUL SUNDAY were sent for sampling.
