Racing Incident Report

TOM'S FIRST was slow to begin. MARANELLO began awkwardly. In the early stages, KIDDYLAND proved difficult to settle on a number of occasions and got its head up when close to the heels of INVERNESS. Also in the early stages, BOBO DUCK proved difficult to settle. Near the 1200 Metres, DASHING WINNER was steadied away from the heels of BOBO DUCK. Near the 200 Metres, DANAMITE was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of FIRST AMONG EQUALS which was giving ground. Throughout the race, ROYAL ARMY raced wide and without cover, then in the Straight hung in. W Woods (FIRST AMONG EQUALS) explained he was of the opinion today's track suited horses ridden in a forward position, he therefore in the early stages rode along vigorously in the hope of being able to obtain a position behind INVERNESS in the run. He said when INVERNESS crossed to the rail, he then elected to follow RED POWER which was racing outside the leader. He said prior to straightening he shifted out to ensure he had clear running, however, in the Straight FIRST AMONG EQUALS did not respond to his riding at any stage and overall was disappointing. FIRST AMONG EQUALS was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. A veterinary examination of FIRST AMONG EQUALS after the race did not show any significant findings. Prior to the weighed-in being semaphored, the Stewards considered an application from Y T Cheng, the rider of LUCKY SIXER, that the horse be declared a non-runner as in his opinion it had not had a fair start. Having heard submissions from Y T Cheng and viewed all the available videos, the Stewards formed the opinion as the gates opened LUCKY SIXER became fractious, put its head down, then on jumping reared, causing Y T Cheng to become unbalanced and be dislodged. In those circumstances, the Stewards were of the opinion LUCKY SIXER had not been denied a fair start and the horse was therefore declared a runner. BOBO DUCK was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of BOBO DUCK after the race did not show any significant findings. ROYAL ARMY and RED POWER were sent for sampling.
