Racing Incident Report

GOOD BOY was withdrawn on 28.5.04 on veterinary grounds (right fore capped elbow) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter MONEY EXPRESS (D Whyte). Before being allowed to race again, GOOD BOY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. On jumping, LEGEND'S GLORY blundered. TRI-STAR began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped HONEYBEE. SUNDAY DELIGHT was a little slow to begin and shortly after the start was steadied away from the heels of SUPER BEST which shifted out. EQUUS ZEPHYRUS began awkwardly, bumped the inside gate of its stall and lost ground. Prior to the 1300 Metres, SUNDAY DELIGHT was checked when crowded for room inside PROFIT DAY which when being steadied away from the heels of TRI-STAR shifted in. At this time, TRI-STAR, which had been a little slow to begin, had been ridden along to improve into a position inside the heels of ETERNAL FUN which at this time was shifting in after having initially been clear. MONEY EXPRESS and SUPRA SMART KID were checked in consequence. As the Stewards believed there were some circumstances surrounding this incident, it was considered appropriate that no action would be taken. Near the 1300 Metres, PRETTY DOUBLE was checked severely when crowded for room between SUPRA SMART KID which at this time itself was being checked as a result of the crowding and HONEYBEE (K S Yu) which shifted in when not properly clear. In the circumstances, K S Yu was severely reprimanded and advised to exercise more care. For some distance after the 1200 Metres, SUPRA SMART KID proved very difficult to settle and got its head up on a number of occasions when close to the heels of PROFIT DAY. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, MONEY EXPRESS was steadied away from the heels of SUNDAY DELIGHT. After the 700 Metres, SUNDAY DELIGHT was steadied away from the heels of TRI-STAR. Approaching and passing the 300 Metres, SUPER BEST was held up and unable to obtain clear running behind LEUNG'S FAVOURITE which at this time was giving ground. Throughout the race, ALLEGRO raced wide and without cover. SUNDAY DELIGHT was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. A veterinary examination of SUNDAY DELIGHT after the race did not show any significant findings. EQUUS ZEPHYRUS and PRETTY DOUBLE were sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, EQUUS ZEPHYRUS was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed the horse to have an epiglottic entrapment (breathing obstruction). He also noted the horse to have a laceration to the left front cannon. Before being allowed to race again, EQUUS ZEPHYRUS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Following the race, J Holder (PRETTY DOUBLE) reported the horse was making an abnormal breathing noise. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said there were no significant findings, however, he did note the horse to have a laceration to the back of the left knee. ENERGETIC PRINCE and ALLEGRO were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted HONEYBEE had a laceration to the right hind leg.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 31 May 2004)
SUNDAY DELIGHT, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. SUNDAY DELIGHT was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer D A Hayes this morning. He said at this time the horse was noted to have a stiff, restricted hind limb action. Before being allowed to race again, SUNDAY DELIGHT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
