Racing Incident Report
Mr G Lane, the trainer of THE MOST DAUNTLESS, was fined $2,000 for presenting the horse in the Parade Ring without its tongue tie, part of the horse's declared gear. A tongue tie was fitted to THE MOST DAUNTLESS prior to the horse going to the Start. SMILEY WIN was slow to begin. FOREVER CHARMING, which had drawn wide and was to be ridden quietly, was immediately steadied on jumping and shifted across behind runners to a position close to the rail. Shortly after the start, WINWIN COMBINATION was bumped by SPARKLE which shifted ground after being brushed by FLASH MAC. At the 800 Metres, SUN POWER was momentarily crowded for room inside NICE FRIENDS which shifted in when only just clear. After the 600 Metres, GRANVILLE ISLAND stumbled after being checked when close to the heels of NICE FRIENDS which was commencing to give ground. For some distance after this, GRANVILLE ISLAND was held up behind NICE FRIENDS which continued to give ground. Prior to straightening, THE MOST DAUNTLESS became unbalanced when crowded for room inside NICE FRIENDS which when giving ground was momentarily crowded for room by WINWIN COMBINATION. On straightening, SPARKLE was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of THE MOST DAUNTLESS. QUEEN'S GLORY and FOREVER CHARMING, which were following, were carried wider as a consequence. Over the concluding stages, SPARKLE was held up and unable to obtain clear running between PLEASANT SUCCESS and WINWIN COMBINATION. Because of this, SPARKLE was not ridden out to the end of the race as it normally would be. Also over the concluding stages, QUEEN'S GLORY raced close to the heels of PLEASANT SUCCESS which was giving ground and SMILEY WIN raced close to the heels of FLASH MAC. Because of this, these horses were not ridden out to the line as they normally would be. In the run to the line, FOREVER CHARMING hung in and proved difficult to ride. GRANVILLE ISLAND, FOREVER CHARMING and FLASH MAC were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported NICE FRIENDS had bled from both nostrils.
