Racing Incident Report

It was noted CELLINI while being paraded kicked a rail. After arriving at the Start, the horse was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon, was trotted up and after the necessary consultations was passed suitable to race. At the start, SERIOUS PLAY was crowded for room between REBEL LEADER and CELLINI, both of which shifted ground. Shortly after the start, GIFT, which was to be ridden in a rearward position tonight from the outside barrier, got its head up and shifted out abruptly when being restrained to shift across behind the field. S K Sit (CELLINI) explained the horse bumped the outside gate of its barrier stall as it jumped, this caused him to lose the use of his left side stirrup iron. He said in the early stages he endeavoured to regain the stirrup iron, but was unable to do so. He said he was aware CELLINI in the past had pulled and proved difficult to settle and as he was at a disadvantage, at about the 1600 Metres he shifted to the outside of the runners in front to give himself room and while he was aware doing this would cause inconvenience to GIFT, in the circumstances he felt it was reasonable. He said he was not able to regain the use of the stirrup iron for the remainder of the race and as such was not able to ride CELLINI as he normally would. The Stewards advised S K Sit they accepted his action as being reasonable. S Dye (GIFT) said when CELLINI shifted out on his inside at about the 1600 Metres, he steadied his mount and shifted behind that horse to assist S K Sit who was having difficulty controlling his mount. He said it was then his intention to improve on the outside of BULL'S EYE and on the inside of CELLINI, however, CELLINI then shifted in to be racing close to BULL'S EYE which meant he was unable to improve his position. COME SEE YOU and SUNSEEN were sent for sampling.
