Racing Incident Report

FORWOOD was slow to begin. ABLE WIN was slow to begin and shortly afterwards was steadied when crowded between NORTHERN FLYER which shifted in after beginning awkwardly and SPARKY which shifted out after being bumped by DANRIVA. In the early and middle stages, DANRIVA was obliged to race wide without cover, then after the 800 Metres went forward to get in and race outside the leader. After the 700 Metres, CHEEKY (D Whyte) shifted out from behind V-CAN to be racing three wide and following AMBITIOUS TYCOON. Because of this shift, SPARKY (C Soumillon) was carried to be racing four wide. For some distance approaching the 600 Metres, SPARKY, which was racing about a neck down on CHEEKY, was hard ridden in an endeavour to hold that horse in. Whilst C Soumillon was riding his mount along, his right elbow was raised. After the 600 Metres, CHEEKY shifted to the outside of AMBITIOUS TYCOON, causing SPARKY to be hampered and carried out further. D Whyte was severely reprimanded and told while the initial shift was acceptable, his final shift bordered on being in contravention of the rules. He was told he is not at liberty to shift out into running unless he is clear of other runners. The Stewards were satisfied C Soumillon's right elbow did not come into contact with the body of D Whyte and therefore no action was taken, however, he was told he should refrain from the practice of raising his elbow. At the 600 Metres, NORTHERN FLYER was awkward on the heels of SPARKY. Just prior to straightening, MY CHIEF was awkwardly placed inside the heels of V-CAN. Also just prior to straightening, HELENE MOMENTUM lost ground when awkwardly placed close to the heels of V-CAN which was giving ground. CHEEKY and BOBO DUCK were sent for sampling. After the race, FORWOOD was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was lame in its right fore leg. Before being permitted to race again, FORWOOD will be required to pass an official veterinary examination.
