Racing Incident Report

FANTASTIC WIN was slow to begin and then was steadied away from the heels of LUCK AND FORTUNE which shifted out. Shortly after the start, MISSION POSSIBLE was steadied when crowded for room between CRAIG'S HA HA and TWIN WIZARDS which after bounding in the air shifted in. Also shortly after the start, general crowding occurred between GOOD BROTHER which got its head on the side and shifted in abruptly and NEVER HEADED which after being initially taken out by HOLY RANTO got its head on the side and shifted out further away from that horse. The main sufferers being FORTUNE GLORY and FOREVER GOLD which were checked and GANBARIA STAR which was hampered. In the early stages, CRAIG'S HA HA, which was racing in a forward position, was obliged to race wide and without cover. At the 800 Metres, FANTASTIC WIN was steadied away from the heels of GOOD BROTHER which itself came back away from the heels of LUCK AND FORTUNE. Also at the 800 Metres, FOREVER GOLD was awkwardly placed close to the heels of GANBARIA STAR. At the 500 Metres, FORTUNE GLORY got its head up and shifted out when unable to obtain clear running between FOREVER GOLD and GOOD BROTHER. At the 200 Metres, HOLY RANTO, which was giving ground, was steadied when crowded by FOREVER GOLD which itself was steadied when disappointed for running on the inside of CITY FORTUNE which shifted in away from CRAIG'S HA HA after being initially carried in by that runner. In the opinion of the Stewards, the occurrence was accidental. After the 200 Metres, FORTUNE GLORY was momentarily crowded for room between GANBARIA STAR and MISSION POSSIBLE. J Spencer (FANTASTIC WIN) explained near the 500 Metres he commenced to shift his mount out to improve around the field, however, as he did so, he became aware FORTUNE GLORY to his inside was shifting out and this resulted in GOOD BROTHER being carried wider. He said when this occurred, he was of the opinion to continue shifting out to go forward would result in him being carried extremely wide on the Home Turn and he therefore shifted his mount back closer to the rail to improve and save ground. The explanations submitted by J Spencer were accepted. HOLY RANTO was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, HOLY RANTO was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No significant findings were made. FANTASTIC WIN, NEVER HEADED and FORTUNE GLORY were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Report (released on 27 Feb. 2003) :
A veterinary examination of HOLY RANTO, which performed poorly, immediately following the race did not show any abnormalities. HOLY RANTO was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer this morning at the stables of Trainer K W Lui. At this time it was found to be lame in the left fore leg. Before HOLY RANTO can race again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination.
