Racing Incident Report

SUPER COMBED began awkwardly, resulting in F Coetzee, its rider, becoming unbalanced. After this, SUPER COMBED was ridden along to race midfield but wide without cover throughout. Shortly after the start, ROMANTIC VENTURE lost its position when crowded for room between FLORAL DANCER and SUPER SIXTY-SIX which was taken in by SEA PEARL. In this incident, FLORAL DANCER was bumped on several occasions and became unbalanced. At the 1400 Metres, SEA PEARL was steadied away from the heels of GANBATTE which was carried in slightly by GUSCOTT. For some distance after the 1200 Metres, FLORAL DANCER, which was proving difficult to settle, was awkwardly placed close to the heels of GANBATTE. On straightening, INCREDIBLE was steadied and shifted out to avoid the heels of GANBATTE which was giving ground. Shortly after straightening, SUPER SIXTY-SIX was checked when disappointed for running between SUPER COMBED and SEA PEARL which was giving ground. INCREDIBLE, which was giving ground, was steadied and shifted in to avoid the heels of SUPER SIXTY-SIX. Also shortly after straightening, ALLEZ ALLEZ was steadied and shifted to the outside of ROMANTIC VENTURE to obtain clear running. When questioned about the improved performance of LATTE, Trainer J Size said the horse, which was having its third race start tonight, had shown natural improvement and development as its preparation had progressed. He said tonight LATTE paraded very well and with the increase in distance in tonight's race, LATTE was able to find the lead and set a "moderate" pace in the early sections. He said LATTE clearly appreciated being able to race like this. He attributed tonight's improved performance to these factors. SUPER SIXTY-SIX was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of SUPER SIXTY-SIX after the race did not show any significant findings. SUPER COMBED, LATTE and DRAGON WIN were sent for sampling. After the race, INCREDIBLE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was not striding out freely in front. Before the horse can race again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination.
Additional Veterinary Report (released on 27 Feb. 2003) :
SUPER SIXTY-SIX
After this race, SUPER SIXTY-SIX, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer who said at that time there were no significant findings. SUPER SIXTY-SIX was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer this morning at the stables of Trainer J Moore. It was noted the horse was slightly lame in the left fore leg. Before being permitted to race again, SUPER SIXTY-SIX will be required to pass an official veterinary examination.
INCREDIBLE
After this race, INCREDIBLE was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer who said the horse was not striding out freely in front. The horse was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer this morning at the stables of Trainer D A Hayes and was noted to be lame in both front legs. As previously advised, INCREDIBLE will not be allowed to race again until it passes an official veterinary examination.
