Racing Incident Report

CHINA SPORTFIELD was slow to begin and was then checked when crowded for room between PRESENT TREASURE and TSUNAMI, both of which shifted ground. KING HOGAN and KIDDY SING were slow to begin. At the 1500 Metres, KING HOGAN became unbalanced when being steadied away from the heels of KIDDY SING. Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, CHINA SPORTFIELD, which was being hard ridden to make up ground, was checked when crowded for room inside FAIRPLAY (Apprentice K L Chui) which shifted in. In the circumstances, the Stewards considered it appropriate to reprimand Apprentice Chui. When CHINA SPORTFIELD checked, crowding was caused on its inside to FANTASTIC WIN and FORTUNE GOLD, both of which were hampered and TSUNAMI, which was following CHINA SPORTFIELD, was steadied and shifted in away from that horse's heels. Approaching the turn at the 600 Metres, PRESENT TREASURE, which was to be ridden quietly tonight, over-raced. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, CHINOOK was bumped by TIRAMISU. Shortly after straightening, KIDDY SING was steadied when hampered as a result of TSUNAMI which after initially shifting in got its head on the side and shifted further despite the efforts of its rider. In the circumstances, no action was taken. Over the concluding stages, FANTASTIC WIN was not able to obtain clear running between TIRAMISU and KAO AND MING which got its head on the side and shifted in. Because of this, FANTASTIC WIN was not ridden out to the end of the race. O Doleuze (CHINA SPORTFIELD) said the intention had been to ride the horse in a forward position. He said after being interfered with at the start then being checked, CHINA SPORTFIELD was left racing without cover and did not relax. He said after the 1200 Metres he noticed TIRAMISU being restrained and he felt he might have been able to go forward, cross that horse and race outside the leader. He said at the 1000 Metres he became aware CHINA SPORTFIELD was not showing sufficient speed to clear TIRAMISU, he therefore shifted the horse wider on the track after entering the Back Straight in an attempt to have it relax underneath him as in his opinion he made some use of the horse in the early stages. FAIRPLAY was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of FAIRPLAY after the race did not show any significant findings. TIRAMISU, NAPA and KING HOGAN were sent for sampling.
