Racing Incident Report

NOBLE SILENCE was slow to begin and hung in in the Straight. SMACKO began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of LUCKY PARADISE. WINNING KEVIN was slow to begin. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, LUCKY PARADISE became unbalanced and bumped the running rail when awkwardly placed inside the heels of DASHING THUNDER which at this time got its head on the side and shifted in momentarily. Whilst the Stewards were satisfied the riding of A Delpech (LUCKY PARADISE), 5th placegetter, did not affect the horse's finishing position, he was nonetheless reminded of his responsibilities to ride his mounts out at least hands and heels to the end of the race where possible. When questioned, G Schofield (EQUATOR KID) said tonight he had been instructed if possible to follow ASALI which had drawn to his inside and it was anticipated that this would have him behind midfield. He said when he had ridden EQUATOR KID at its last start from a wide barrier, the instructions had been to ride the horse in midfield with cover if possible, however, when he was not able to obtain a position with cover, EQUATOR KID over-raced and pulled its way into a forward position. He said at the start prior to that when EQUATOR KID was successful over the same course and distance as tonight's race it was felt EQUATOR KID would be in front of midfield due to an anticipated slow pace He said on that occasion EQUATOR KID was able to travel outside the leader in what was a slowly run race without being made use of in the early stages. He said tonight it was anticipated ASALI would carry him forward into the race, however, that horse failed to do so and EQUATOR KID itself failed to finish the race off. Mr Y S Tsui, trainer of EQUATOR KID, confirmed the riding instructions issued to G Schofield on each occasion and said at its two most recent starts the circumstances of the race led it racing further forward than is usual. The explanations of G Schofield and Mr Tsui were reported. ASALI and SMACKO were sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, ASALI was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse had bled from both nostrils. A veterinary inspection of SMACKO after the race did not show any significant findings. NILOMETER and WEALTHY TREASURE were sent for sampling.
