Racing Incident Report

The Stewards tonight interviewed Mr D J Hall, the trainer of SIAMERIC TE SPECSO, second Standby Declared Starter, as to the circumstances regarding the horse being mistakenly treated on 20.1.07. SIAMERIC TE SPECSO was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. Mr Hall pleaded guilty to a breach of Rule 50(2) in that he was negligent in the running of his stable. Mr Hall was fined $20,000. On arrival at the barriers, it was noted the tongue tie on TERRAFERMA had come loose, resulting in the tongue tie having to be refitted. HAPPY GO LUCKY was slow to begin. Approaching the 1100 Metres, FLYING GENERAL, WINDICATOR and EASY were hampered when MR COOL shifted out. In the middle stages, EASY raced fiercely and was awkwardly placed close to the heels of THUNDER FLASH. Approaching the 600 Metres, BRAVE KNIGHT became unbalanced when close to the heels of MR COOL. Passing the 300 Metres, EASY was bumped by WINDICATOR which shifted to the outside of THUNDER FLASH into clear running. Near the 150 Metres, HAPPY GO LUCKY was awkwardly placed when obtaining a run between BRAVE KNIGHT and TERRAFERMA. Close to the finishing line, WINDICATOR and EASY brushed. Throughout the race, SMART FELLOW raced wide and without cover. When questioned, D Nikolic (HAR HAR CHARMS) said due to the wide draw he was instructed by the horse's trainer, Mr J Size, to attempt to find cover if at all possible. He said when the gates opened, HAR HAR CHARMS began only fairly and as there was considerable speed drawn to his inside he made the decision to come back and shift in to a position close to the rail but at the rear. When further questioned regarding his riding in the Straight, D Nikolic said on entering the Straight he felt his best option was to shift the horse to the outside of runners into clear running to ensure his mount obtained uninterrupted running and would be able to close the race off. He added after he angled his mount to come to the outside of runners near the 300 Metres, clear running eventuated in advance of where his mount was racing as SALUT BEAUTE shifted out, however, he was unaware of this at that time. D Nikolic was told his explanation would be reported, however, his riding of HAR HAR CHARMS in the Straight had come under notice and he should ensure he rides his mounts in a manner which leaves no room for query. THUNDER FLASH was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of THUNDER FLASH after the race did not show any significant findings. EASY and WINDICATOR were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported SMART FELLOW was lame in the right front fetlock. Before being allowed to race again, SMART FELLOW will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
