Racing Incident Report
SIX SENSE bounded in the air at the start. For a considerable distance approaching the 200 Metres, SWEET STREAM was steadied when unable to obtain clear running. At the 200 Metres, SHAMDALA was momentarily steadied away from the heels of CHERRY MIX which shifted in. Also at the 200 Metres, NORSE DANCER was steadied when momentarily crowded for room inside SATURN which shifted in after being brushed by CHERRY MIX. Over the concluding stages, SWEET STREAM was not able to obtain clear running between SHAMDALA and REEFSCAPE which shifted in slightly. Because of this, SWEET STREAM was not ridden out to the end of the race as it normally would be. Throughout the race, SIX SENSE travelled wide and without cover. Whilst the Stewards were satisfied the riding of SHAMDALA over the concluding stages did not affect the horse's finishing position, they nonetheless advised C Soumillon that in similar circumstances he would be expected to ensure he rode his mounts out at least hands and heels wherever possible to the winning post. When questioned, O Peslier (WESTERNER) explained in the past the horse performed best when ridden with cover. He said because of this today approaching the winning post on the first occasion he obtained a position behind WARRSAN, however, shortly afterwards he was awkwardly placed inside the heels of SIX SENSE, he therefore elected to allow that horse to cross and take up a position behind him. He said despite racing near the rear he was not concerned as WESTERNER had shown itself to perform well when ridden in a similar manner previously, however, today WESTERNER did not close the race off as he would have liked and in his opinion did not act on today's track condition. WARRSAN was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of WARRSAN after the race did not show any significant findings. WESTERNER, OUIJA BOARD and SIX SENSE were sent for sampling.
